4.1 MIXING OF SUB- BASE MATERIALS

 Sub-base materials shall be a mixture of crusher- run and sand of

1:4 ratio.

 They are either mixed at site or quarry.

 For a site mix, respective material shall be delivered to site and

stock piled.

 Mixing of above mixture as sub-base material shall be carried out

using backhoe and back pusher.

 Each mix of sub-base shall be processed to obtain a uniform mix of

materials and moisture content throughout, acceptable for laying
and compaction. Compacted layer shall achieve 30% C.B.R @
150mm/250mm thick.

4.2 LAYING OF SUB-BASE

 Laying of sub-base shall commence on site upon approval and

acceptance of sub-grade formation. Where required, the works shall
proceed only after completion of surcharging.

 Laying, spreading, and grading to the required thickness and level

of the sub-base material shall be carried out using a back pusher
and a motor-grader. Reference pegs with level shall be provided at
20m intervals along the laying area to control the thickness and
gradient.

 The moisture content of the sub-base material shall be monitored

and water shall be applied to maintain specified moisture content.

 Compaction using vibratory roller shall commence when the

moisture content is +/-3.0% of the optimum moisture value.
Compaction shall be carried out in a single layer.

 Compaction trials shall be carried out to access the suitability of the

compaction plant and to establish the rolling pattern required to
achieve the specified compaction required.

 On completion of laying and compaction, joint survey (by dipping

and in situ density test shall be conducted to check for compliance
with the specified requirements. Reduced levels to be used for dips
shall be summarised at each required chainage as per available
cross sections

 If the laid sub-base material has met compliance, approved upper

road base material shall be laid immediately.

4.3. CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD BASE

 The Road base material shall be ¾” aggregate (blended with 10mm

aggregate) from Granite Indah Sdn Bhd.

 Laboratory tests will be carried out on the proposed material to

comply with specification requirements.

4.4 LAYING OF ROAD BASE

The procedure of forming roadbase layer is similar to the sub base

construction.

5.0 QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURE

Material specification for Sub base and Road Base shall follow Technical
Specification Clause 4.1.2 and 4.1.4 respectively.

Testing shall follow the procedure laid out in the Project Inspection & Test
Plan.

5.1. HIGHLIGT OF THE SPECIFICATION

 Criteria / Requirement of Sub Base

Soaked CBR > 30%

Plasticity Index < 6 PI

Test to show compliance with the specified requirements shall be carried

out.

 Compaction Requirement

Method of compaction to achieve not less than 95% of the Maximum Dry
Density as determined by BS 1377 Test 13.

 Criteria / Requirement of Road Base

Soaked CBR > 80%
