intervals. The actual depth of ground improvement shall be as instructed
by SE.
4.3.3 A field trial shall be carried out before the Stone Column
(vibro replacement) work commence for area not less than 1000 m2 and
the reports will be submitted to SE for approval.
4.3.4 A drainage blanket of 1000 mm thick will be placed prior to
installation of stone columns.
4.3.5 The installation process is carried out using vibrator and its
associated follower tubes. High pressure water jets exiting at the tip of the
vibrator is incorporated to assist in the penetration of the vibrator into the
soil.
4.3.6 Vibro replacement shall be carried out to form the specified
diameter stone columns by backfilling using stones (20 mm to 75 mm
sizes). A densely compacted stone column shall be produced by raising
and lowering the vibro probe, while adding stones into the hole.
4.3.7 The post-treated ground will be compacted using Compactor
to achieve the required density for the top one metre depth.
4.3.8 2 numbers of Plate Bearing Test, one to be carried out on a
single stone column and the another one on four stone columns after the
completion of ground improvement, will be carried out.
4.3.9 All necessary geotechnical instruments for settlement

4.3.10 Filling works will commence once the existing soil has achieved the
required density or as directed by SE.

4.4 Surface Vibratory Compaction (SVC)

4.4.1 A joint survey will be carried out with SE to inspect and set
out the location based on Drawings.
4.4.2 The initial subsoil conditions shall be established by carrying
out pre-treatment field testing cone penetration test (CPT) using
piezocone. The location of the CPT shall be at the center of proposed
Surface Vibratory Compaction grid at least 1 nos for every 1000 m2.
4.4.3 A field trial will be carried out in selected areas not less than
1000 m2 for the specified surface Vibratory Compaction work. 3 nos of
Cone Penetration Test each shall be carried out during the pre-treatment
stage to access the degree of ground improvement achieved and submit
the results to SE for approval.
4.4.4 Extra fill or surcharge of 2-3 m will be placed before
vibrocompaction to provide the necessary overburden pressure and to be
removed upon completion of compaction.
4.4.5 Vibratory plates or probes with sufficient energy imparted will
be used into the ground to densify the cohesionless subsoil up to the
required effective depth as shown in the Drawings.
4.4.6 The densification procedure shall be repeated over a grid
pattern to ensure that the densified zones of influence overlap sufficiently
to achieve the specified degree of Ground Improvement throughout the
area and depth to be treated.
4.4.7 300 mm thickness of sand blanket will be provided at the top
of subsoil.
4.4.8 The post-treatment ground surface will be compacted by
compactor to improve foundation soil and Soil Compaction Test or CBR
Test for the top one meter depth will be carried out.
