1.0 SCOPE

This methodology addresses the procedure to construct pavement works


for the approach of Vehicular Box Culvert near Kg. Titi Besi.

2.0 MATERIALS

4.0 METHODS

4.1 PRIME COAT APPLICATION

 The prime coat application shall commence upon approval and


acceptance of road base formation. The acceptance shall be base on
meeting specified level and gradient (dipping method), as well as field
density required (FDT).

 Prior to spraying of prime coat, the surface of road base shall be


cleaned and free from dust or loose materials.

 The primer will be sprayed by a mechanical pump distributor mounted


on a tractor /back-pusher).

 Spray test is to be carried out if instructed by S.E. The spray rate shall
be of 0.25 to 8.0litres/m2 in accordance to specification requirement.

4.2 ASHALTIC CONCRETE WEARING COURSE (ACWC) LAYER

 Laying of ACWC shall commence upon approval and acceptance of the


road base and prime coating.

 The ACWC shall be plant-mixed with binder content as found by


Marshall mix design.

 The wearing course shall be delivered to site by tipper trucks. The mix
shall be covered with tarpaulin to reduce the loss of heat, and any
contamination during transportation.

 The ACWC shall be laid by a paver (ABG 255 or equivalent) in a single


layer.

 Compaction shall be carried out using the specified/equivalent type of


compactors and the rolling pattern to be established during trial lay.
Following rollers to be used :

 Vibratory Tandem Roller - Dynapac CC21 or equivalent.

 Pneumatic Tyre Roller - Dynapac WP20 or equivalent.

 The proposed rolling pattern shall be as below:

 Initial rolling - 10 passes using Pneumatic tyred roller

 Final rolling - 2 static passes using Tandem roller

 Rolling shall always commence from the lower to the higher side
of the carriageway.

 Back-casting of premix shall be minimized. Should back-casting be


carried out, the bigger size aggregates shall be removed before rolling.

 At the end of the paving operation, the joint shall cut back to a vertical
face and painted with emulsion for the next operation of paving.

 The sampling and testing of the wearing course shall be carried out at
the plant to determine the temperature, gradation and binder content
of the mixture whenever there is production. Temperature of the
mixture delivered to site will also be checked for compliance.

 The surface of the wearing course shall be finished to the grade and line
as required by the specification. Joint inspection and dipping shall be
carried out to check compliance.

 On completion of laying and compaction, coring shall be carried out to


determine the thickness of the compacted ACWC layer and the
compacted density of the material at the required area as requested by
S.O.

5.0 QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURE

 Inspection and testing shall follow the procedure laid out in the DRB-
HICOM Inspection and Test Plan.

6.0 HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT

 Work will be carried out according to the Project Safety Plan.

 Tool box meeting will be carried out on construction area at regular


interval to ensure compliance with the Safety Plan and familiarity with
accident and emergency procedures.

 Conduct safety induction course to workers before commencement of


work.

 Provide PPE to all workers including safety helmet, safety shoe, vest,
etc.

 Provide signboards to warn workers and public of dangers associated


with construction works.

 Advanced traffic warning signs will be positioned in place along and at


entrance of access roads and designated flagman will be used when
working in the vicinity of existing road if required.

 Ensure affected utilities, if any are relocated or protected prior to


commencement of work.

 Water browser will be used to control dust when necessary.

 Inspect all machinery at site and ensure that it has competent


certificate and is safe to operate.

7.0 LINE BLOCK APPLICATION
