When past, purpose, and a sense of “home” run together, it creates something unforgettable. Partnering with Panay Films and T-Mobile on this campaign was more than just a project—it was a meaningful collision of personal history and professional passion. As the Spanish editor, I was proud to bring Gp5 Inc. bilingual post-production skills to this powerful message, alongside the legendary voice of David Ortiz. But this story hit closer to “home” than I anticipated. The footage captured scenes from St. Pete Beach—the first place I called home after arriving in the U.S. with my aunt and uncle. Seeing those streets, my old neighborhood, and realizing they’d been impacted by hurricanes was deeply moving. Adding to that, my uncle Kris, a firefighter, was on the ground helping save lives—a true reminder of resilience and service. And, as if this project couldn't resonate more, my new home team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, won the World Series, contributing to T-Mobile’s incredible Rally for Relief campaign. Each home run raised $25,000, helping reach a total of up to $1 million for hurricane relief. It’s rare that a project we work on carries this many layers of meaning, and I’m grateful GP5 could contribute to support those affected by the recent storms. The #ParisOlympics shows how strong the streaming industry is. Don't believe it? 👉🏻 The opening ceremony was the most-watched live event ever on NBCU's streaming service Peacock, attracting 28.6 million viewers across NBC and Peacock. Another 666,000 watched the event on Telemundo Deportes. This is a 60% increase over the Opening Ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Games. Insane! (source: Nielsen and Adobe Analytics) 👉🏻 The NBC platform raised its subscription prices before the Olympics. Ad-supported subscriptions will increase by $2 to $7.99 monthly, and ad-free subscriptions will jump to $13.99. Despite this, subscriber levels continue to rise. 👉🏻 In just two first days, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max and Discovery+ streaming services pulled in more unique viewers for the Paris Olympics than the entire summer Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. 👉🏻 The Hollywood Reporter shows that, so far, more than 4 million viewing subscribers have tuned in for the Paris Olympics on Max and WBD’s Discovery+ platform in Europe. Seventy-seven percent of those were on Max. 👉🏻 WBD revealed that the Paris Olympics has so far (29.07.2024) driven almost 1 billion streaming minutes across Europe, more than seven times higher than at the same point of Tokyo 2020, and is already representing 75% of the total minutes from those games. Nov. 2nd—Day 2 Recap: #TPAFF brought engaging discussions, including the “Distribution & Liberation Panel,” where I was honored to speak. Together, we explored how transmedia is transforming film distribution, especially after the pandemic and industry strikes. Our panel also included the amazing Danny Torres from NBCUniversal, writer/director/producer Derek Johnson II and powerhouse producer Romaine A. Simon which delved into the “liberation” of distribution channels—how filmmakers are finding new freedom to reach global audiences directly through streaming services, VOD, SVOD, TVOD, and even social media, bypassing traditional gatekeepers. We highlighted the rise of hybrid release models, combining theatrical, streaming, and online premieres to expand viewership and profitability. Monetization was another key theme as we discussed new revenue models like subscription tiers, ad-supported content, and crowd-funded releases that give creators more options to thrive in the changing media landscape. This “Distribution & Liberation” discussion showcased the importance of adaptability and innovation in navigating the industry’s future. It's great to hear that Disney and DirecTV have reached a new distribution agreement: it allows DirecTV to offer Disney's streaming products, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and the new ESPN streaming service, as part of their packages. This is a significant step forward, giving customers more flexibility and access to premium content. However, I question DirecTV's focus on having the ability to package genre-specific bundles. Virtual MVPDs (Sling, Sony Vue, Hulu, YouTube) have already tried — and failed — to gain meaningful traction with "skinny bundles."  They didn't work because consumers aren't asking for non-sports, genre-specific bundles. What they need is a simple and economic way to *continue to watch* all of their favorite sports over streaming without paying an arm and a leg or juggling multiple subscriptions. The path forward for legacy media with respect to streaming bundles is fairly simple. Follow the path of least resistance, allowing distributors to package a **reasonably priced, ad-supported streaming bundle that incorporates all the sports rights from Disney, Fox, NBCU, Paramount, and Warner Bros. Discovery**. I call this bundle "FULLU" 😉 . The faster they do this, the quicker they will mitigate the effects of cord-cutting and audience erosion. Charter has made meaningful inroads securing distribution of all the ad-supported tiers of Disney, Paramount, and WBD streaming services. It still needs to do the same with Peacock and bring Fox sports into the fold. If Comcast and other players like YouTube TV then follow suit, it could breathe new life into the entire legacy media industry. Charter Communications DIRECTV The Walt Disney Company Warner Bros. U.S. Hispanics continue to be undercounted in the data we use today. Two years ago, we launched the TelevisaUnivision Household Graph to address rampant under-representation of Hispanics in industry data. Today, it covers nearly 100% of Spanish-Speaking households nationwide…with over 250 brands activating with our graph in the last year alone.
