3.1 General Installation Procedure:

- Ensure that the proper clearance is available from civil side before commencement of works
- Ensure that the work area is clean and safe for carrying out the activities
- Prior to start of works, it shall be ensured that the relevant shop drawings and coordination drawings are approved
and issued for construction.
- It shall be ensured that no contraction with other previously installed services, and if there is any shall be cleared.

Page 3 / 18
- It shall be ensured that the material issued is as per the approval material submittal.
- Check proper supports for the erection is available (if applicable).

3.2 Installation:-

3.2.1 Laying Procedures For Underground HT Cable :- .

- Size & Length of the cable to be checked by engineer In charge & Supervisor before cutting high tension cables
- Cable drums are to be positioned on cable Jockeys and cable end to be left from the top
- Rollers are to be provided at regular intervals according to cable route while pulling the cable on ground shall be
avoided to protect cable insulation
- Insulation resistance of HT cable should be checked by 5KV megger after installation and before termination of
cables
- The width of the cable trench shall be maintained minimum 450mm and 1200m depth according to number of
cables buried
- Soft sand shall be spread 150mm below the cable and 100mm above the cable. Over this a layer of 300mm clean
earth soil shall be filled
- Laying protective RCC/Bricks over the cable properly with regular arrangements
- CI markings to be provided at every 20m span with cable routing identification

3.2.2 Laying Procedures For HT Cable On Tray:-

- The tray shall be curved enough to allow the cable with correct bending radius
- Cable shall be dressed properly and using clamps where vertical cable is laid and the cable tray surface is
horizontal without any overlapping
- Cable identification to be provided to both the ends of cable as per approved cable schedule
- Cable ends should be earthed and sealed properly
- Earth conductor should be laid parallel along with cables
- Mobilizing & Positioning Of Boom/scissor lift In Work Location
- Cable laying work Process by Mechanized equipment by Boom/scissor lifts
- Ensure that proper colour coding is followed for phase ,neutral ,earth as per the standard
- The colour coding of cable shall be followed till the termination within Panels

3.2.3 Terminations Of HT Cables :-

- Termination shall be done by using approved termination materials that include glands ,lugs and other
accessories part of termination kit
- Gland the cables in the panels using the suitable size / type of cable gland
- Cable Lugs shall be heavy duty copper type lugs
- Terminate the cables / wires in the panels using suitable size of cable lugs crimped by proper crimping tool
- Termination bolt nuts to be tightened properly and lugs crimping to be done properly
- Gland Earthling connected to the Panel body earth

3.2.4 Cables Identification :-

- Install the tags/ labels as per project specification and as per approved material submittals
- Identification of cable by proper tag of the cable drum at both end of the cables
- Warning Identification labels to provide with height of 50mm and the background of identification to be yellow
and with black letters.

3.3 Safety
- Head Protection: - Hard hats or helmets should be worn where there is the possibility of injury from falling
objects. All time mandatory.
- Foot Protection: - Safety shoes should be worn if there are hazards from falling objects or when handling heavy
crates or equipment. All time mandatory.
- Hand Protection: - Gloves should be used while handling Earth flat to avoid cutting. All time mandatory.
- Eye and Face protection: - Eye glasses, nose mask, or face shields should be worn.
- Ear Protection:-It may be necessary to wear ear plugs or muffs when noise levels surpass 85 decibels.
- Shoulder protection: - Shoulder pads should be worn, if in case of manual straddling.
- Height work area shall be hard barricaded and only authorized persons will enter inside the earthing works
- Proper housekeeping should be done daily after finishing of works in the evening.
- As we are all aware regarding the COVID-19, we should take our own precautions to control the spreading rate
while activities going at site, so compulsory masks & sanitizers should be used at workplace.
