The Right Thing to Do: A Harvard Study (Studying with Harvard) The Harvard series "The Right Thing to Do" poses a moral dilemma: should we kill one person to save four? This question sparks a debate on individual rights, liberalism, and the role of government. Individuals have separate lives that must be respected, and liberalism emphasizes the importance of individual rights. However, governments have a legitimate role in passing laws that promote the greater good, such as requiring seatbelts or helmets. But what about moral values and societal norms? Don't they sometimes violate individual liberty? For instance, the recognition of gay and lesbian rights doesn't harm anyone, yet some argue it goes against traditional values. Another question arises: should wealth be redistributed from the rich to the poor? Is this a violation of individual liberty or a necessary step towards equality? In October 2017 when The New York Times broke the Harvey Weinstein expose, I triggered a #MeToo moment for the ad industry when I asked women to speak out and name the Harvey Weinsteins of our industry. An avalanche hit my inbox. The talk title below does not reflect the content, because I was so horrified by what I uncovered, that I rewrote my talk at the last minute to make the first half about that (btw, the back half is a great guide to where the money is in our industry). Please take just 15 minutes to watch now - and note my paraphrased quote, "If we're not at the table, we're on the menu." March is Women’s history month. It’s fair to recognize that when Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the amendment for women to vote ...It was an empowering moment, and a major change in history for women. It gave women more power. It was on August 18, 1920, that the amendment passed its final hurdle of obtaining the agreement of three-fourths of the states. Many more changes still must be made to empower women, but we use examples like this and inspire more women to rise up at any time or month to can use our voices to create change to heal our children, family, community and society. https://lnkd.in/ePPsGxrk
