Often times, the assumption is made that Black nonprofit leaders and organizations are not doing certain things in their organizations because they don’t know these things need to be done. So, Black nonprofit leaders are told to participate in mentoring programs, boot camps, etc. developed for Black nonprofit leaders. I am a firm believer in professional development. However, most of the time, Black nonprofit leaders are not doing things in their organizations because they don’t have the financial resources to do so. Resources for staffing, operations, hiring consultants such as External Evaluation Consultants, accounting, etc. Black-led nonprofit organizations need financial investments from funders and donors to achieve the mission of their organizations. This report from Candid , highlights the inequities in nonprofit funding by showing the resource gap between Black-led and White-led nonprofit orgs. Nonprofits with a Black CEO and majority Black board of directors are often smaller and have less financial resources. A few days late sharing this, but as you likely already know, Ashley Panelli and I have the privilege of being the first Black women to lead 9to5. While it's an exciting shift to Black leadership and a shared leadership model, it is not without challenges. Specifically, we wrote this article to highlight the challenge of the under-funding of Black-led organizations. It's a call to action for funders to make deep mulit-year investments in Black leadership and not simply lip service.

Excited to share that the 2023 impact report for LISC's Black Economic Development Fund (BEDF) is now live. Since 2020, with generous support from our investors, BEDF has committed a majority of its capital, investing $211.9 million to fuel Black-led financial institutions, Black-led businesses, and other organizations doing business in predominantly Black communities addressing economic challenges and contributing to closing the racial wealth gap. Through initiatives like BEDF, LISC remains at the forefront of efforts to enhance capital access for entrepreneurs serving communities of color. Happy Tuesday LinkedIn. There's a lot of controversy surrounding SHRM's decision to drop the equity in DEI. My sentiments are aligned with those of many DEI practitioners, you can't authentically practice DEI without Equity. Equity is the meat of DEI. Equity is the accountability piece, it's what makes change tangible, measurable, and visible. Therefore, eliminating the E in DEI would be an injustice to the work and those who are most impacted by it. The practice of DEI looks different in every organization, and it is up to the organization and its leaders to decide how that is defined Consider those in your organization that are eager to learn and put DEI and leadership practices in to action. Recommend those leaders to our Inclusive Leadership Bootcamp. Real change is the actions you take!!! The total investment is $299. As Black women gain recognition in highly visible positions, they are faced with various misconceptions that impact their life. When entering visible positions or running for office, black women have to not only work against racial and gendered misconceptions but also present themselves in a relatable way. The balancing act puts high-levels of stress on black women that do not exist for other candidates. We’ll discuss those misconceptions and ways to fairly evaluate their candidacy.
