You're facing unexpected setbacks in a technical sales project. How do you ensure project deadlines are met?
Seek to understand- what is the root cause? Communication is key to ensure all parties are aware that there is alignment on the outcomes, as well as to demonstrate commitment to a successful resolution. Internally, seek help from your team and different perspectives- there may be a solution you hadn't considered. We often learn more from challenges we face, so navigating this successfully together with your client can deepen relationships if things are executed well with transparency increasing trust.

What do you do if your client is unhappy with your proposed solution?
Seek to understand - often times you are closer than not, but its important to unpack why they are unhappy and to understand what success truly looks like. Ask open, clarifying questions and check for understanding and alignment. Done well, this can build trust and set the stage for deeper collaboration.

What are the most effective ways to personalize client onboarding?
My client teams and I always like to think of the easy button in service of our clients. Meet them where they are- do they want a meeting or re-recorded explanation of how to get started for their teams? Create a simple resource that shows them who does what and whom to go to for what when. If your processes aren’t easy for them, simplify them in a way that works. Just like in the sales process, understand what continued success looks like for them and use that to guide onboarding and ongoing support. You’ll create loyal clients that grow.

How do you use follow-up to show value and teach prospects?
The best client partnerships are grounded in trust. Listening to understand vs. respond in your discovery is a great place to start. That way, as you're following up, it's a chance to tie back to their unique needs as you explore the possibility of fit and solutions.. I find the most meaningful follow-up is focused on them but also a bit broader in giving them other external perspectives on the topic to consider- that way, you're serving as a thinking partner and a consultative resource. It leads to interesting discussions, richer solutions, and greater long-term partnerships. People are so busy so if they invest the time with you, it needs to provide them with something of value that they can't get elsewhere.
