Yes! Yes! and Yes! This may be one of the most on-point articles that I have read on workforce policy and outcomes and one of the hottest discussion topics at the moment. "Why has the system generated such disappointing results for job seekers over the last several decades? It is organized around a failed premise: the belief that unemployment and underemployment are primarily a result of individual skill deficits and that if the system can equip people with “in-demand skills,” then employers will reward those people with good wages. That has not happened." This is why New Collar Talent has adopted design thinking methodologies as the core of our approach to workforce innovation. If you are a People Professional leading or supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, then you know that stakeholder management is a huge part of the job. Often, it's helpful to have a plan for each of your stakeholders. Here's a list of five of the many partners DEI practitioners must have on speed dial and on rotation. As we open enrollment for the Brilliant Colours™ Leadership Coaching Series this week, the importance of investing in coaching for Black employees is top of mind. A recent article shared a stark disparity in access to coaching opportunities, emphasizing the need for change: Black professionals are the most under-coached workplace demographic. According to studies by the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) and McKinsey & Company: ▪️White Men: 78% report having access to professional coaching. ▪️White Women: 72% ▪️Black Men: 50% ▪️Black Women: 40% A 38% difference for Black women! This gap underscores a critical need for equitable support in leadership development. Deloitte’s study on Black leadership highlights that a robust support system boosts confidence. Coaching provides this support, ensuring leaders feel seen and affirmed. Employers, sponsors, and allies, it's time to invest in Black employees. One of our Executive Leadership Coaches, Shannon Cochran-Yzquierdo, ACC, PMP, wrote a powerful article about her experience with leaders - and as a leader - as viewed through a marginalized lens. We encourage you to read the entire article (link in the comments below). Here is an excerpt: I am a Hispanic lesbian in my 50s. The idea of being my authentic self is a relatively new concept for me. Blending in and not causing waves was encouraged. The idea of being a strong female leader in a male-dominated career was a foreign concept to me. Then, add lesbian, and the idea of thriving in my career was almost unimaginable. You see, my leadership lens might be different than yours. Why? My experiences involve hearing gay jokes, slurs, being damned to Hell for being a “homosexual,” being too young, too nice, too pretty, not smart enough, and so on. The thought of being a successful leader, even thriving in my career, seemed so far out of reach. Something had to change! There are two leadership characteristics that I believe are universal to thriving leaders. They are instrumental in my leadership journey and the leader I am today. The first characteristic is to lean into your courage. Do the right thing when no one is watching. Leaning into your courage means moving through your fears. I encourage each of you to build your courage muscle, so this becomes second nature. The second characteristic is to embrace your authenticity. Most of us want to be liked by others, whether we are leading the team or a member of the team. When you love yourself enough to be authentic, the sky is the limit to what you can accomplish. There is a sense of freedom when you no longer pretend to be something you’re not!  I encourage each of you to embrace your authentic self and let the world see YOU. *** Leaders, keep Shannon’s story in mind. What if change management wasn’t the only skill leaders need to develop? What if stability management was just as essential? With so much change coming at us all the time, how can leaders intentionally cultivate stability in their organizational culture—and why does it matter? As this HBR article explains, “stability isn’t about resisting change—it’s about providing the foundation that makes change successful.” It emphasizes that clear communication, consistent processes, and trust-building are critical to making change less disruptive and more effective. It’s a fresh perspective for leaders: building stability isn’t about playing it safe; it’s about setting your organization up for success, even in times of uncertainty. "Stability management is a way of managing an environment, not a way of navigating a moment. Stability management concerns itself with what’s working on a given day, whereas change management starts with what isn’t. Stability management elevates the need to give attention, where change management over-rotates toward feedback.
