InterGlobe and Archer on Course for “Route and Fare Plans for Indian City eVTOL Services” InterGlobe Enterprises, which owns IndiGo, the largest airline in India, and Archer Aviation are on course with their plans to launch flying taxi services between Delhi and Gurgaon, Bengaluru city and its international airport, as well as Bandra to Colaba in Mumbai, potentially from 2026, reports The Times of India. This company, Dassault Aviation MRO India (DAMROI), incorporated in India and based in Noida (Uttar Pradesh), is a subsidiary of Dassault Aviation. It is committed to meeting the needs of the Indian Air Force by offering tailor-made products and services to support its Mirage 2000 fleet and, more broadly, the fighter aircraft supplied by Dassault Aviation in India, in order to guarantee the best possible responsiveness and efficiency in fulfilling its requirements. Created under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” policy to contribute to India’s self-reliance and promote indigenous value-added services, DAMROI will benefit from Dassault Aviation’s technological expertise and offer new opportunities for cooperation and collaboration with the aim of becoming a key player in participating to a full-fledged aero defence ecosystem in India. ✈️ IndiGo's Strategy Amidst Supply Chain and Engine Challenges ✈️ India’s largest airline, IndiGo, is navigating unprecedented challenges due to supply chain constraints and issues with Pratt & Whitney’s (P&W) PW1100G engines. Currently, around 60 of IndiGo’s aircraft remain grounded, affecting operations, costs, and profitability. However, there’s a roadmap to recovery, with projected improvements by April 2025. Key Insights: Grounded Fleet & Financial Impact: IndiGo’s fleet grounding peaked at mid-70 aircraft in Q2FY25. These groundings, coupled with soaring fuel costs and rising maintenance expenses, led to a net loss of ₹987 crore for the quarter. Revenue vs. Rising Costs: Despite a 13.6% revenue increase to ₹16,969.6 crore, IndiGo faced pressure from a 41% surge in airport charges, a nearly quadrupled cost in aircraft rentals (₹763.6 crore vs. ₹195.6 crore YoY), and higher fuel expenses. Mitigating Strategies: CFO Gaurav Negi indicated that as P&W addresses defects with critical engine components, the airline expects to reduce its grounded fleet to about 35 aircraft by April 2025. Returning damp-leased aircraft will also aid in reducing rental costs. As Aircraft on Ground (AOG) numbers decline, so too should AOG-related spending. Industry-wide Implications: RTX Corp., P&W’s parent company, projected that 600-700 engines across the Airbus A320neo family will require shop visits through 2026, grounding hundreds of aircraft annually and potentially costing RTX up to $7 billion. This ripple effect is reshaping operational strategies and finances across airlines dependent on P&W’s geared turbofan engines. Looking Forward: IndiGo’s challenges underscore the complexities of modern airline operations. Yet, strategic mitigations, grounded fleet recovery, and potential cost reductions pave the way for improved financial performance in the coming quarters. A strong connoisseur of Civil-Defence MRO convergence in India, DG AAC, Lt Gen A.K Suri assumed the appointment of DG and Colonel Commandant of AAC on 18 June 2021. In India, the term MRO is used mostly in the context of #civilaviation, but what about military aircraft? Don’t they need maintenance? As a matter of fact, due to the complexities of operations and various high-end technological advancements, the precision, skill, and effort required for performing MRO operations on military aircraft are much more complex. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the Indian Air Force, and sometimes foreign OEMs have performed military aviation MRO in India. Still, there is a major scope for expansion in this field for private players.
