#sundaythoughts - why do eVTOL aircraft developers keep trying to compare flight times with drive times, when as a mainly mid-mile transport option they should be comparing with other mid-mile transport? High Speed Rail companies tend to compare their travel times with airlines, not car travel. An example from the attached article: "The flight—a journey that would take about three hours by car—lasted just 20 minutes.", BUT we should not forget that "Nowadays, there are direct ferries running from Shenzhen Shekou Port and Shenzhen Airport Ferry Terminal to Zhuhai, taking 50-70 minutes and costing CNY 120-200". A similar case is certain eVTOL developers claiming electric airtaxi time savings over car transport between Dubai Airport and the Palm Jumeirah helipad, when helicopter airtaxis are already demonstrating that time saving today.

Which countries will be the first to adopt an eVTOL Airtaxi Service? 🚁 With so many companies in the eVTOL industry getting closer to certification, we can now look ahead to the exciting time that these aircraft will enter into service and begin to fulfil their promises as a sustainable method of air transport. As exciting as it is to see companies like Archer, Volocopter and Joby getting close, there is still a lot of work to be done by service providers. They are still working to help establish Infrastructure, Regulation and the simple logistics of running a successful air taxi service. Service providers like United Airlines, Japan Airlines, Gol and Azul have already placed numerous orders for various eVTOL aircraft and are working to set up these services in time for the aircrafts release. With the Development, Certification and production of these aircraft still on going, it is difficult to say exactly when and where these services will come. With all the complexity of developing a new aircraft, often, a company’s proposed EIS (entry into service) date can be quite different from the actual date. However, all things considered, it is looking likely that the below countries will be amongst the first to adopt an air taxi service: 🌎 North America It will come as no surprise that NA will likely be one of the first counties to adopt eVTOL services. With so many leading eVTOL companies being based in California alone, it seems obvious that USA will be a front runner in the adoption of air taxi operations. Archer Aviation have talked about establishing routes in locations such as New York and Miami as early as 2025. 🌍 France Volocopter have made no secret of their plans to launch the Volocity at the Paris Olympic games in 2024. With Volocopter being one of the companies that is closer to certification, it’s a safe bet to assume France will be one of the first counties to adopt these services. 🌍 United Arab Emirates Dubai has well established itself as a hub for new technology and innovation. In a recent release, Joby announced a partnership with both Dubai’s road and transport Authority and Skyports to establish Airtaxi operations by 2026. With several other eVTOL providers also being closely linked with setting up in Dubia, it would be also safe to assume that UAE will be an early adopter of Air taxis. There is a lot of speculation on how accurate some of these predicted dates are. Anyone who works in the aerospace industry is well aware of how common it is for a projects deadline to be delayed. It will be very interesting to see which companies will fulfil on their promises, and which ones will not. Which countries do you believe will be first to adopt an air taxi service? #evtol #aam #airtaxi Credit to SMG Consulting for the image
