    OVERVIEW
    • Touch screen technology is the direct manipulation type of gesture-based technology.
    • Direct manipulation is the ability to manipulate the digital world inside a screen.
    • A Touch screen is an electronic visual display capable of detecting and locating a
    touch over its display area.
    • This is generally referred to as touching the display of the device with a finger or
    hand.
    • This technology most widely used in computers, user interactive machines,
    smartphones, tablets, etc to replace most functions of the mouse and keyboard.
    • Multi-touch technology is an advanced human-computer interaction technique that
    recognizes multiple touchpoints.
    • Multi-touch using total internal reflection is a simple, inexpensive, and scalable
    technique for enabling high-resolution multi-touch sensing. The use of multi-touch
    technology has rapidly grown in recent past years.
    • The most popular form are mobile devices, tablets, touch tables, and walls. Both
    touch tables and touch walls project an image through acrylic or glass, and then
    back-light the image with LEDs.
    INTRODUCTION
    • Multitouch feature was first introduced by Steve Jobs.
    • It was known as “pinch” the two finger gesture for zooming in and
    out of photos and Web pages on the Iphone.
    • The Apple’s iphone’s multitouch feature s dramatized new ways of
    using touch to interact with software devices.
    WORKING

    The iphone’s multitouch software lets you control everything using


    only your fingers
    • A panel underneath the display’s glass cover senses your touch using
    electrical fields
    • It then transmit that information to a LCD screen below it.
    • Special software recognizes multiple simultaneous touch points.
    • You can move back and forth through a series of web pages.
    FEATURES

    • Multitouch interfaces are potentially more versatile than single


    touch interfaces
    • It allows you to use one or more fingers to perform special gesture
    that manipulate lists or object on screen
    • It has overcome the use of mouse, pressing button, turning scroll
    wheels, striking key
    • Multitouch gesture are easier to remember than commands.

    WHAT PROBLEMS DOES MULTITOUCH
    TECHNOLOGY SOLVE ?

    • Helps people with disabilities - Helps autistic students to


    speak to and communicate with others.
    • Replace the use of mouse and keyboard - For users who
    cannot grasp a mouse and want the functionality of a PC (e.g
    the Dell Latitude XT tablet) .
    • Minimize clutter with portable device such as the Android
    operating systems for smartphones has support for multi-
    touch. Users can manage emails, contacts, calendars and hold
    virtual meetings through a built-in webcam and microphone.
    WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF A
    MULTITOUCH INTERFACE ? HOW USEFUL IS IT ? EXPLAIN.
    • Advantages
    • More versatile than single-touch interfaces - as opposed to the single-touch
    screen, which recognizes only one touch point. Multi-touch interface allows
    one or more fingers to perform gestures to manipulate objects.
    • Multi-touch gestures are easier to remember than commands - Based on
    ingrained human movement that do not have to be learned. touch is ideal for
    consuming/presenting information. Because it is a more natural interface, it
    increases user productivity.
    • Disadvantages
    • Size of finger complicated the occlusion problem, as several fingers, hand or
    devices are clouding even more parts of the touch screen than one single-
    touch device.
    • Limitation to the handicapped.
    • Risk, the multiple device mostly rely on touch screen rather than touch tablet
    without display, you always need to be able to look at the surface and get
    discern able display information.
    DESCRIBE THREE BUSINESS APPLICATIONS THAT
    WOULD BENEFIT FROM A MULTITOUCH INTERFACE.
    • The usefulness of multitouch interface are the change of interaction, engagement
    with other new possibilities and the enhancement of teamwork.
    • There are three business applications that would benefit from a multitouch
    interface are:
    • reading digital material (e-books / e-mail)
    • electronic signature software
    • project quote estimate. 
    • The reading digital material such as e-books and e-mail should be supported with
     pinch zoom function, easy to drag or double click and QWERTY on screen
    keyboard that supported  multitouch for 2 handed typing. 
    • The electronic signature software should manage the document work flow, safely
    and securely complete documents with legally-binding signatures in minutes
    from everywhere, anytime and can SEND,TRACK, CHART and SIGN
    document. 
    • The project quote estimate should have construction field estimator, make quotes
    for clients and use 19 different calculators and estimators to estimate materials
    and costs. 
    WHAT MANAGEMENT, ORGANIZATION, AND TECHNOLOGY
    ISSUES MUST BE ADDRESSED IF YOU OR YOUR BUSINESS
    WAS CONSIDERING SYSTEMS AND COMPUTERS WITH
    MULTITOUCH INTERFACES ?

    • The management, organization, and technology issues must be


    addressed if my business was considering systems and computers
    with multitouch interfaces such as the employees who are not
    technology-savvy, psychological resistance to change, growing
    technology with the introduction of new and better gadgetry, high
    costs, redundancy with similar feature different gadgets and
    intrusiveness with negative impression.
