Cases Filed Against Architects

1. San Francisco Millennium Tower HOA Files New

Lawsuit Over Sinking Skyscraper (USA)

The lawsuit names the developer, Millennium Partners,

along with the Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA), the
regional agency overseeing the building of the adjacent
Transbay Transit Center, and also the architectural,
engineering, and general contractor firms involved in
building the San Francisco Millennium Tower. A previous
lawsuit was already filed in August 2016 when the tower
was discovered to be sinking (0.4 m) as much as it was
projected to sink over its lifetime. Another lawsuit alleges
Millennium Partners withheld information about the extent
of the buildings settlement problems from homebuyers,

2. Cornell sues firm of famous architect I.M.

Pei over Johnson Museum of Art (USA)

Cornell University has filed a lawsuit against

the architecture firm founded by I.M. Pei that
accuses it of submitting "inherently flawed and
materially defective" designs for the Johnson
Museum of Art's recent expansion that led to
structural deficiencies, cavities in the roof,
cracks in the ceiling and other problems.
Cornell was deeply unsatisfied by the
museums addition, and thought the design to
be fundamentally flawed. The design made
by Peis firm caused too much humidity which

3. Estafa charges filed vs fake architect (Philippines)

The National Bureau of Investigation filed estafa charges before the Pasay City Prosecutors
Office against a fake architect who collected almost P1 million for the renovation of a seafood
restaurant along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City but failed to do the job. The
suspect was identified as Elmer Coquia, owner and manager of e. Coquia Design Services. Upon
verification by complainant with the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC), Coquia was not
in the database of licensed architects in the Philippines.
