We're thrilled to announce that UAS has joined South West Community Development Council (CDC) and eight other Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to formalise a collaborative eco-system aimed at addressing community needs in the South West District. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on 5 November at NUS, marking the launch of the South West Community Inno Lab. Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development, Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration and Adviser to West Coast GRC Grassroots Organisations (GROs), witnessed the signing alongside Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and Mayor of South West District. For the first time, students from different institutions will form inter-IHL teams to work on community-centric projects, partnering with grassroots organisations, social services, and local agencies on themes like Health, Social Support, Sustainability, and Mental Wellness. With mentorship, structured brainstorming, and funding support, students will gain hands-on experience developing solutions that truly impact residents' lives, honing essential skills while fostering a more inclusive community. We’re excited to see how this collaboration will shape the future and nurture the next generation of changemakers! 🌟

🥳 Exciting news! We're thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Arts House Limited (AHL), paving the way for students from LASALLE College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts to gain hands-on experience in the arts industry. Starting Jan 2025, students can apply for internships and project work at AHL's venues, festivals and programmes! This three-year partnership will offer 12 internships or project work attachments annually, preparing our students for impactful careers in the local arts scene 🌟 Applications will open with the launch of UAS' new career and internship portal, also in Jan 2025. A huge thanks too to the generous support of donors including Dr Della Suantio Lee, Ms Suzanne Liau and Mr Pierre Lorinet for making this possible. Our Vice-Chancellor Prof Kwok Kian Woon shared "This collaboration will not only enhance our students' education but also equip them to excel in the ever-evolving creative industries. We look forward to seeing how our students will grow through this experience and the meaningful contributions they will make to their own development and to the wider arts community here in Singapore." P.S. Spot Sharafah Malihah, emcee for the event who is currently studying in the BA (Hons) Arts Management programme at LASALLE College of the Arts. We’re especially excited for what this partnership will bring for students like her 😎

Inspiration can come from anywhere, but it often sparks through creative exchanges with peers and faculty. 😉 Recently, selected students and faculty had the chance to connect with four Red-Dot Design Award-winning student representatives from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME). In collaboration with UAS' arts institutions LASALLE College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, students from MOME, LASALLE and NAFA shared key projects and explored new ideas, bridging cultures through product design. Our Vice-Chancellor Prof Kwok Kian Woon, joined in too! Big thanks to our MOME friends for the enriching exchange - what a fantastic experience! 🌟

It was a brilliant start to our Career Skills Curriculum, part of our Common Curriculum which brings NAFA and LASALLE students together in joint classes. Our Director, Partnerships & Engagement, Steve Golden held a masterclass to master presentations 😉 and we sure hope everyone walked away with some new skills under their belt! 🥷
The Careers team ran its first UAS Career Skills Elective today, marking the first joint programming for NAFA and Lasalle students. We had a blast learning how to present natural... a critical yet elusive skill in any industry.

Guess what? In partnership with UAS, the National Design Centre will soon house part of the design and applied arts collection, currently located at the library@orchard! This collection will be relocated from library@orchard to the Central Arts Library, scheduled to open by the end of 2024 and occupying mainly level 5 of the National Library Building. The move is part of NLB’s efforts to centralise its arts resources to better serve patrons such as students, researchers and practitioners from institutions and communities in the arts and heritage district. University of the Arts Singapore reposted this
🎭 NAFA School of Theatre Completes First Artist in Residence Program! 🎭 We are extremely honored to have completed our inaugural Artist in Residence program, a milestone for NAFA School of Theatre. This unique residency, developed in collaboration with Dr. Ang Gey Pin, Founder of Sourcing Within, and the incredibly talented artists Marie Walker (Poland/UK) and Mika Oskarson Kindstrand (Sweden), has been an enriching experience for all involved. Through this residency, our NAFA Theatre Diploma and BA Contemporary Chinese Theatres students had the extraordinary opportunity to learn directly from these inspiring artists. The program not only exposed our students to diverse intercultural artistic practices but also encouraged them to explore and push the boundaries of their own creative potential. The culmination of this residency, “Timeless Chapters”, presented on August 28th and 29th, 2024, was a powerful showcase of the pre-performance materials researched and developed during this time. The work marked the end of the residency but also the beginning of an exciting new phase of artistic exploration. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Ang Gey Pin, Marie Walker, and Mika Oskarson Kindstrand for sharing their wisdom, experience, and artistry with our students and community. We look forward to seeing how this collaboration will inspire future creative endeavors at NAFA. Thank you to everyone who joined us on this journey. The future of theatre looks bright, and we are thrilled to be part of its unfolding.
