DCE of the National Arts Council Ms Lynette Pang was at the Singapore International Transport Congress & Exhibition (SITCE) 2024 event and shared her insights on how the National Arts Council leverages the power of the arts to elevate commuter journeys and public transport networks.   Through initiatives like Poems on the MRT and I Play SG Music in partnership with SMRT Corporation Ltd, and a busking scheme for Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with SMRT and ARTDIS (Singapore) Ltd, everyday spaces are converted to become artistic canvases for inspiration. These initiatives not only enhance public transport journeys but also create more pleasant and memorable experiences for millions of commuters across the island.   Such transformative efforts are only possible through strong partnerships with like-minded stakeholders who share our belief in the arts' power. We are grateful for our ongoing collaborations with partners like the Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore, SMRT and SBS Transit Ltd which bring #OurSGArts to the heart of our communities, enriching the lives of those who live, work and play in Singapore.   Over the next few years, the National Arts Council aims to provide more opportunities for commuters and members of the public to experience the arts everywhere across more public spaces in Singapore. "This year’s Cultural Medallion and Young Artist Award (CMYAA) recipients have each contributed in their own, quite distinctive ways to the arts. But together, they also express the breadth of character and imagination we aspire for in Singapore culture." - President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. 🌟 Instituted in 1979, Singapore’s highest artistic accolade, the Cultural Medallion, is conferred on flautist, composer and conductor, Dr. Ghanavenothan Retnam and social realist paint artist Siew Hock Meng. 🔥 In recognition of their artistic excellence and contributions to the community, Alan Choo, Evan Low, Tan Si En and Zhang Fuming have received the Young Artist Award. This year’s recipients have made significant strides in creating works that resonate with audiences in contemporary Singapore, such as through leading multi-disciplinary collaborations, representing Singapore in the international arts scene and other ways. Congratulations to all our recipients! As part of Our SG Arts Plan (2023 - 2027), we will continue to push the artistic boundaries of our arts community, broaden their networks and empower them to pursue their passions. The National Arts Council is thrilled to celebrate the Singapore Symphony Orchestra's (SSO) triumphant performance on an international stage at Asia Orchestra Week in Kyoto.    The SSO captivated audiences with a stellar performance, including the Japan premiere of "Luciola singapura" by #OurSGArts Singaporean composer Koh Cheng Jin.    Internationalisation efforts are crucial for fostering a thriving #CreativeEconomy. The Performing Arts x Tech Lab has concluded its inspiring journey, bringing together performing arts practitioners and technologists to transform artmaking through the innovative interplay of arts and technology.   Since August 2023 to April 2024, six project teams had spent nine months exploring how technology can enhance artistic expression and practice. Their efforts culminated in an Industry Sharing and Exhibition that showcased their prototypes. Here are some key takeaways from their journey!   The Performing Arts x Tech Lab is a collaboration between the National Arts Council (NAC) and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay with the Keio-NUS CUTE Center.    To learn more about the participants’ Lab experience, read the e-publication at the link https://lnkd.in/guxBvdgc

How can #OurSGArts stay resilient as we rebuild and strengthen the arts ecosystem?    Last month, NAC Chief Executive Mr Eng Teong LOW shared his insights at the 5th International Arts Leadership Roundtable organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Themed “Art or No Art? Does It Matter?”, Low spoke about harnessing opportunities for the arts in the creative economy, and how the National Arts Council nurtures opportunities that champion the growth and long-term sustainability of the arts sector. These efforts include growing artistic excellence and building a larger audience base by creating multiple capability pathways for arts practitioners, forging new partnerships, and expanding internationalisation efforts.   During his trip, he also connected with the international arts community at the inaugural Hong Kong Performance Arts Expo, where NAC hosted a networking session to facilitate opportunities for Singapore arts practitioners to engage with arts producers, presenters and practitioners from around the world.   Click through to read how the Council is creating a stronger, more sustainable arts sector, anchored by Our SG Arts Plan (2023 - 2027). 👇

What a year it has been for our busking community!   Sharing some photos from our final Buskers Connect session in November 2024 where the National Arts Council shared more information on enhancements made to the busking scheme, announced new busking locations to be onboarded in the coming months and provided clarifications on sound-level guidelines amongst other updates.   We are grateful for the busking community’s active participation in shaping the development of #OurSGArts through their creative expressions.   As we look forward to 2025, we're excited about the opportunities to further enliven Singapore through busking.    For more information on the engagement session, visit https://lnkd.in/g_cD4Emb.
