🥳 Exciting news! We're thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Arts House Limited (AHL), paving the way for students from LASALLE College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts to gain hands-on experience in the arts industry. Starting Jan 2025, students can apply for internships and project work at AHL's venues, festivals and programmes! This three-year partnership will offer 12 internships or project work attachments annually, preparing our students for impactful careers in the local arts scene 🌟 Applications will open with the launch of UAS' new career and internship portal, also in Jan 2025. A huge thanks too to the generous support of donors including Dr Della Suantio Lee, Ms Suzanne Liau and Mr Pierre Lorinet for making this possible. Our Vice-Chancellor Prof Kwok Kian Woon shared "This collaboration will not only enhance our students' education but also equip them to excel in the ever-evolving creative industries. We look forward to seeing how our students will grow through this experience and the meaningful contributions they will make to their own development and to the wider arts community here in Singapore." P.S. Spot Sharafah Malihah, emcee for the event who is currently studying in the BA (Hons) Arts Management programme at LASALLE College of the Arts. We’re especially excited for what this partnership will bring for students like her 😎

In February of 2024 Alua Mukazhanova and I won a Global Competitiveness Competition organised by DGS/GSP at PNU. The annual Global Competitiveness Project (GCP) serves as a significant platform for students within the DGS/GSP to actively contribute to the development of both the department and the broader university community by giving students a chance to develop ideas of how to enhance Korea's, PNU's, and DGS's global competitiveness and support the students selected based on their presentation of proposals to visit international educational institutes, companies, public organisations, research centres, NGOs in the overseas countries of their choice. Embracing the spirit of the GCP, our research project focused on the difficulty students face in securing internships due to a lack of experience, unsuitable programs, and a lack of guidance. We named our project “The Student Success Center” (SSC). Through our idea, we aimed to provide comprehensive support to address the hurdles students face in securing international internships. We chose the UK as our project destination, recognizing its strong international ties and the presence of multinational corporations. During our trip to London, we managed to visit the University College of London, King’s College London, Standard Chartered Bank, and Kent PLC office in Woking. We also had an opportunity to conduct interviews with alumni students of KCL, UCL, and UAL, as well as with the Finance Controller at the British Council in Almaty and the Finance Director at Meta Platforms Inc. in London. Our main objective was to become a bridge between PNU students and companies providing internships abroad. To achieve this, we developed an informative research report that offers guidance on how to apply for internships abroad. I am very grateful for this opportunity, which has significantly improved my teamwork, organisation, research, and communication skills. Additionally, our team gained valuable insights into studying and working in England, exploring job opportunities, and using the power of networking. What are you getting if you hire someone with a Bachelor of Arts in European Studies? Since our programme is interdisciplinary and mixes business and politics, there are a lot of options, so it might be better to ask what our graduates CAN’T do, but to narrow it down, we like to share examples. So this week, while we’re on a short holiday at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, we’re sharing stories about students who are doing their mandatory internship, which is a great way to get a sense of what our graduates do and what they have to offer. Today, we hear from Charis Janzen, who recently finished her internship at GoBright, an office innovation company. “I successfully completed my Marketing Internship and I ended it in such a special way: organising the company's Yearly Team Event! I am grateful that I was entrusted with this responsibility amongst many others. I would not necessarily describe my internship as just an internship, but rather an in-depth experience of today's working culture. I was surrounded by the best colleagues and received great guidance. This internship taught me so much about the smart workplace solutions market and the different stakeholders that are involved. It taught me the importance of truly knowing the company you're working for as well as the brand, because that informs the way you communicate. I believe I was wel prepared by European Studies THUAS for this internship and I am also grateful for the knowledge I was given beforehand. Now, I look forward to finishing the last phase of my studies: my thesis.” We wish you luck on that thesis Charis and look forward to seeing you graduate later this year. If you want to know more about what our graduates have to offer, or if you think your organisation would benefit from some European studies interns, check the links in our bio or get in touch at any time.

"Students must build on relevant skills beyond the confines of classrooms and curricula." - Corrine Ong, Singapore Management University. The latest Times Higher Education article focuses on how learning opportunities stemming from collaborations with stakeholders, such as internships, provide opportunities for students to build in-demand skills. Universities can harness collaborations with higher education stakeholders and alumni engagement to maximise graduate success. ⬇ 🔸 By partnering with universities and industry leaders, we create tailored internship experiences that allow students to learn experientially, in real-world settings. These experiences not only enhance students' practical skills but also cultivate essential skills like adaptability, cultural competence, and communication. 🔸 We foster alumni engagement by connecting former interns with current students, creating a supportive network for knowledge exchange, cultural advice and career guidance. This collaborative ecosystem benefits students and also strengthens ties between academia and industry, ensuring graduates are well-prepped for the challenges of the global workforce. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e37JSdn8

🌏 In an increasingly connected world, preparing our students to graduate and enter the workforce with a global outlook and understanding of cultures beyond their own is more important than ever. 📂 We’re thrilled to share that EdOdyssey President & Founder Peter M. McGovern will be a panelist at the Employability Plenary during this month’s International Internship Conference in Dublin. 🎓 The theme of the plenary: “Cultivating Global Professionals: Exploring Key Factors in Post Graduation Employability.” 🧭 Facilitated by Dr. Maureen Manning from The PIE—and including Jon Stauff (South Dakota State University), Thomas Kelley (Cleveland State Global), and Karina Ramji (University of Victoria)—the panel delves into the complex world of employability, in particular looking at how internships, study abroad programs, and internationalization on home campuses play a role in shaping graduates into globally competitive professionals. 🏫 They’ll be sharing case studies of what this can look like in K12 & at university…and why it matters. 🇮🇪 Learn more about the 2024 International Internship Conference here: https://buff.ly/4baDlcO #iicdublin2024

In the final University Accord report released on Sunday ( https://lnkd.in/gdgJ9K_n) there are plenty of important recommendations that - if implemented correctly - can truly transform the tertiary education sector for decades. One of interest and very applicable to sport and exercise disciplines is #14, a recommendation to consider financial assistance for placements. This is an ongoing area of debate with sporting organisations often believing the value of their brand and experience can justify an unpaid placement/internship, while students feeling they are simply undertaking unpaid work. Can we do better? In the last 10 years when I was a postgrad course chair and responsible for student internships I’ve always bargained hard with clubs to introduce some payment to incentivise students and at least recognise their contributions. A few years ago Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) released their internship guidelines, a positive step in the right direction but I’m unsure of the real impact it has had in the industry. What other practical steps can we take to improve? Do you have examples that you can share?

🌟 Celebrating the Closing Event of the CEU Internship Program in Prague! 🌟 Last week we celebrated the successful conclusion of the CEU Internship Program in Prague! 🎉 This program has been an incredible growth, learning, and collaboration journey for both our interns and the CEU Management. The CEU Internship Program has provided our organization with a unique opportunity to engage with the minds of Gen Z. The interns have challenged our management to think outside the box, bringing fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a renewed energy to our workplace. For the interns, this program has been a transformative experience. They have had the chance to bridge the gap between theory and practice, putting their knowledge and skills into action. The opportunity to see their work come to life has been both rewarding and empowering. Through social learning, teamwork, and cooperation in the office, interns have developed essential soft skills vital for success in today's workplace. Moreover, the program has significantly increased the interns' confidence by taking on real responsibilities and delivering tangible results. A big thanks for your presentations: Farwa Babar, Ashwin Upadhyay, Sumit Dubey, Tanaka Musesengwe and Aneta Močková, also Petra Sochacka for leading the program. As we bid farewell to this year's CEU Internship Program in Prague, let's celebrate the achievements, friendships, and memories created. I do not doubt that the skills, experiences, and connections gained during this program will serve as a solid foundation for the interns' future endeavors. #CEUInternshipProgram #ClosingEvent #GenZ #DHLExpress
