Top 5 tips for embracing a change Change is constant - be it #strategy, #transformation, #organisational or #waysofworking. Embrace the as yet unknown and be open to exploring the opportunities. 🪞 Really reflect: Be radically honest as you connect in on your #interests and #skills, where you have most enjoyed your work if it is changing and what cultures you thrive in. What does the mirror tell you? 🔬 Get under the microscope: Explore the often unseen…. your aspirations, #motivations and #values. What’s wriggling about that you can’t see at eye level? What if you focused here? 🐝 Be with your people: Transitions can range from exhilarating to challenging. Connect with your tribe of #mentors, #friends and #peers. Both their advice and encouragement makes a difference. 💉Take your own medicine: If you have the privilege of supporting others, such as being a mentor, a #manager or a #leader, listen to the advice you give or have given to others. A new study reveals that LLMs like ChatGPT can outperform physicians in diagnostic reasoning ... but there is a catch In a randomized clinical trial, physicians using LLMs alongside conventional tools didn`t show significant improvement in diagnostic accuracy. But, LLM alone scored higher than either group of physicians, underscoring the potential and challenges of integrating AI into clinical practice. Key findings from the study include: ▶LLMs achieved higher diagnostic scores when used independently than when paired with physicians. ▶Human-AI Synergy: proper training in LLM prompt design may unlock better collaboration between clinicians and AI systems (100%). The findings highlight the immense potential of AI but also remind us that technology alone isn’t the solution. Thoughtful integration and training are essential to realizing AI's benefits in healthcare. Having just finished reading David Yeager's invaluable new book, 10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People, I realized that its management and motivation lessons are not just particularly useful for engaging with younger employees, but can also be applied more broadly to create a more fulfilling workplace for all. Here are a few of the many lessons found in the book: - Don't just "manage"; instead, be a mentor who listens, respects others, and seeks to foster excellence. - Set high expectations AND also provide support to meet those expectations. - Be transparent in your expectations, goals, and beliefs. - Purpose matters - connect what your employees are doing to something truly meaningful for them. - Foster a sense of belonging where everyone feels valued, connected, and respected. It is probably the most powerful book on people-centric health and well-being I have ever read. What at first seemed like a random purchase in the Stansted airport's bookstore (on my way to sunny ☀ Turkey) turned out to be the greatest impression of the year so far. The book, written by a patient-investigative journalist for patients in people's language, addresses not only the WHAT - new weight loss drugs - including all the benefits and drawbacks but, most importantly, the WHY - the broader context of obesity - and the HOW - beyond the pill. "…I do not live in a better future. AI will eventually be applied in most parts of the value chain. There is a focus on low hanging fruits, applying ChatGPT in office routines, but significant gains might very well come within areas such as research and automated manufacturing. Gaining an understanding of the level of skills required within ML and AI in different roles, in different parts of the organisation is important. Including at the c-Suite level. I've often asked myself, why doesn't the #pharma industry do more with behavioral science? When I started working in #digitalhealth, I was struck by how important understanding the science of #behaviorchange is, and recognized how digital health opens up the possibility and opportunity to bring behavior change in a way that drugs typically cannot. One of the first lessons I learnt in digital health is that health outcomes are not just determined by medical care. Behavior, social determinants, genetics, all play a part in health outcomes, altogether even more so than medical care. When I started working in the Sanofi partnership with DarioHealth this came to live through the #realworldevidence studies we conducted on the Dario digital multi-condition platform. "Lifestyle modification" is peppered throughout many clinical guidelines for chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. But how often do we really focus on helping people with chronic conditions embark on sustained behavior change? As I say in this collaborated article with HealthXL, it's time to put behavior change back on the map. It's time to stop paying lip service to lifestyle advice. We need to work collectively and collaboratively as a health ecosystem to get digital health interventions that can effectively facilitate behavior change into the hands of the people. And figuring out the best way to deliver evidence to show this is a challenge we must overcome. This is an unmet need that is not going to be solved by a new drug. My Friday schedule can be unpredictable - sometimes it's full of excitement, other times it's calming wind-down to the end of a week. This afternoon, however, I had an energizing rumination with Daniel Kalamarides, PhD on the future of #GenAI in healthcare. Good questions always get the wheels in my head spinning. Reflection on our discussion: ✋🏼 I think #prevention is the part of #healthcare where GenAI can be most valuable in. There's never enough investments in prevention vs treatment, but the greatest number of people can benefit. For example, educating, motivating and nudging people at high risk of developing #diabetes, #heartdisease, #cancer, #falls, etc. to change behavior, so we can catch people before they become #patients. 💸 But who will fund GenAI initiatives for prevention? (which stakeholder's interest is aligned with prevention?) Government is an obvious answer, but we all know the dilemma with government budgets. NGOs? Possible. Maybe #vaccine manufacturers? #consumerhealth companies? #Payers / #healthinsurance companies? #Employers? How can #innovators be better incentivized to develop GenAI solutions for prevention, with a sustainable commercialization pathway, so it's not just another one-and-done initiative? ⚔ GenAI is a double-edged sword for patient experience. While we are cautious not to take away the human experience that people are familiar with, being able to speak freely to a non-human may remove the barrier for some people who fear of being judged. What if this can give us insights into the real reasons for non-adherence to medication, for no-shows to medical appointments, or for misunderstandings to medical advice? We still have long ways to truly realizing the value of GenAI in healthcare, but this emerging #digitalhealth technology carries so much promise that gives us permission to dream what can be possible. **To be or not to be? Why would a company sponsor the Olympics?** I still have great memories from the short trip to Paris as one of the 2,800 Sanofi "Igniters” attending the Olympics. Sanofi’s sponsorship of Paris 2024 extends well beyond corporate visibility. It’s a deliberate investment in people, culture, and a transformative mindset, perfectly aligned with our #WeNeverSettle campaign. While in Paris, I was thinking at my time in P&G nearly 15 years ago when the company made the historic decision to become a worldwide Olympic sponsor. The emotional #ProudSponsorofMoms campaign wasn’t just about marketing—it was about building a corporate identity beyond individual brands. I would love to hear how some of my P&G friends are measuring its ROI now …But undeniably the move remains a significant case study in brand strategy. The Visa example is also interesting where they leveraged the Olympic sponsorship to ensure that only Visa cards were accepted onsite. Whether this drove customer conversion is up for discussion 😉, but it definitely made an impact—sometimes to the frustration of people having to rely on cash to buy a water bottle in the Paris heat! Regardless of the specific goals, the Olympic Games are more than a global sporting event. They embody values like excellence, unity, and perseverance—that resonate across cultures and are essential in today’s business. Now, bring on the Paralympics! What do you think?
