Dr Reddy is well known name in the pharma space, the Indian Company has over several decades built a sizeable global generics business but has in more recent years invested in developing an innovative medicines business. The company caught my eye last week when they announced the launch of DTx product Nerivio in Europe to treat migraine. The product was launched in India in 2023 and the launch in Europe represents an expansion of business model to new markets (info here: https://lnkd.in/gBXvdiHU). Literally 2 weeks later the company announces the launch of a second DTx product, this time for the management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) via an integrated care model. I was surprised by these moves firstly because Dr Reddy is more well known for its generics business and not innovative solutions. Secondly the company is using an integrated care model rather than just selling the DTx product. This is eye opening since pharma companies don't really have that much expertise managing patients, their core competency rests in selling drugs to doctors and other medical channels. To put this into context Dr Reddy is putting together a care program that involves coordinating the use of a team of nutritionists, psychologists and health coaches. It also is designed to work closely with clinicians by supporting patients receiving standard of clinical care. The program ticks a number of important boxes in the use of digital health products; (i) work in collaboration with HCPs, (ii) be interoperable, (iii) deliver personalised care, (iv) provide an holistic care model. The last four points sum-up Peach Health Asia's approach to commercialising patient facing digital health products in Asia. Naughty @ 40 brings giggle & smile to many. And interestingly at & onwards 40s, our heart health starts taking naughty turns. Risk of heart related diseases significantly increases due to sedentary life style, underlying or overt stress in this age group. No or inconsistent exercise, unhealthy + junk food, <8 hrs sleep, smoking, alcohol consumption etc etc are all adding fuel to the naughty heart. So, be naughty but at the same time take charge of your heart health. In last 5 years I have had personally suffered loss of 2 of my friends owing to sudden cardiac arrest/ heart attack and both were seemingly healthy but lifestyle probably took a toll. A simple and interesting book by dear Anuradha Buvaraagan. "The primary objective of this book is to get across the following extremely important message, which will help unlock up the gates to happiness, peace, and optimal health. Why Accessibility is an Ethical Imperative In a country as diverse as India, healthcare inequality is a persistent challenge. If gene therapy remains the privilege of the wealthy, it risks exacerbating existing social and economic disparities. Everyone, regardless of their financial background, should have the right to access life-saving treatments. Gene therapy, with its potential to cure or dramatically alleviate chronic conditions, must not become a tool that further entrenches healthcare inequity. What Needs to Be Done 1. Government Subsidies and Pricing Regulations: The Indian government must consider policies that subsidize the cost of gene therapies, similar to how it has provided free or affordable access to essential medicines like antiretrovirals for HIV patients. Pricing regulations could also ensure that pharmaceutical companies do not charge exorbitant rates. 2. Public-Private Partnerships: Collaborative efforts between the government and private industry can help scale production, streamline research, and lower costs. In India, where government-funded health schemes such as Ayushman Bharat are beginning to improve healthcare access, incorporating gene therapy into such frameworks could be a game-changer. 3. Local Research and Development: Encouraging local R&D in gene therapy through increased funding for biotechnology and medical institutions would help reduce dependency on expensive foreign treatments. India’s strength in the generic pharmaceutical industry proves that it has the potential to become a global hub for affordable gene therapies as well. 4. Raising Awareness and Education: Educating both healthcare professionals and the general public about gene therapy’s potential is essential. Widespread understanding can lead to greater acceptance, demand for fair pricing, and pressure on policymakers to ensure broader access. A Call to Action India’s healthcare system is already under strain due to the dual burden of infectious and non-communicable diseases. However, gene therapy presents an opportunity to revolutionize treatment for genetic disorders and chronic illnesses. To fully realize this potential, it is critical that these treatments be accessible to everyone, not just the privileged few. Access to gene therapy should not be a matter of wealth but a matter of human rights. In a country committed to equity and inclusive growth, ensuring universal access to gene therapy can pave the way for a healthier, more equitable future.

Early-stage Head & Neck cancer has had very few wins. Keytruda comes to rescue? Merck’s crowning jewel Keytruda – which failed in a pivotal trial for “unresected” locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma – recently met the primary endpoint in “resected”, locally advanced HNSCC, a win after ~20 years in the space and which will potentially be practice changing. The trial KEYNOTE-689 is still ongoing and expected to complete in ~September 2026. Keytruda is already approved for more situations in HNSCC– in first-line metastatic or recurrent HNSCC both as a monotherapy and in combination with chemotherapy. Interestingly, in head and neck cancer, no PD-1 therapy has been approved in resected cancer as of now. So Keytruda could be a useful addition to cancer patients looking for options, and an ever growing addition to Keytruda’s label. Keytruda faces patent cliff around ~2028. #Keytruda #HNSCC MSD

Bloomberg Exclusive India’s Piramal Pharma Aims to Double Revenue in Five Years Piramal Pharma expects new molecule development and an $80 million expansion of its sterile injectable facility in Kentucky to underpin its goal of doubling revenues in the next five years, according to its Chairperson Nandini Piramal. Piramal said the company plans to achieve these targets mostly organically, which means filling existing capacity and from new molecules that are currently undergoing clinical trials. “Even if half of them turn commercial, we could see our ‘on-patent’ revenue grow,” she said. Its facility in Kentucky stands to gain from political pressure to bring more drug manufacturing back to US territory, plus a shortage of sterile injectable manufacturing capacity amid the frenzy for weight loss drugs, she said. The Mumbai-based firm, which relies on contract manufacturing for more than half of its sales, reported 81.7 billion rupees ($973 million) in revenue in the year ended March 31, up 15% over the previous year. Its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization margin improved to 17% from 12% in the previous year, while debt to Ebitda ratio was at 3:1. arcura facts :- 🔴If you sit for more than 8 hours daily and don't do any physical activity, your risk of dying is similar to that posed by smoking and obesity. 🟢60-75 minutes of moderately intense physical activity daily (such as brisk walking, running or cycling) can counter the ill-effects of prolonged sitting. 🔴If you sit for more than 13 hours daily, doing exercise also can not counter the ill-effects posed by prolonged sitting. 🔴Health hazards associated with prolonged sitting are: Increased risk of diabetes, hypertension, abdominal adiposity (obesity), elevated LDL cholesterol & triglycerides, heart attack, stroke, cancer and premature death. 🟢Strategies to minimize sitting duration: ➡️Take 5-minute standing or walking breaks after every 30-45 minutes of sitting, ➡️Prefer standing work desks, ➡️Have meetings & coffee breaks in standing position, ➡️Reduce leisure-time sitting (such as while watching TV, mobile phones, other electronic gadgets), ➡️Schedule 45-60 minutes walk daily. #arcuralifecare #healthcare #Pharmaceuticals

An incident happened today and couldn’t resist myself not expressing because it will keep on bothering me till I don’t vent it out .. While standing in the queue today for voting I realized that ours was the longest & as per people standing there got to know it would be taking approx. 2 hrs for our turn & then I noticed that the other queue allotted for different (part no ) no was quite shorter Out of curiosity, I looked around asked people & got to know the queue will less no of people was shorter because for people of that ( part no )arrangement done was differently  in a way males in one queue & Females+ Sr citizens in another one & that’s how the queue I saw earlier was shorter It felt like a smart way to divide the load into two – that can automatically give some advantage to me & other fellow females . I started thinking it will save me & other females some time & be there for kids and other household chores that by default are always on the higher side for female counterparts in comparison to males of family ( no denying the fact that the imbalance is shifting with more no males taking the load as a family member ) To my surprise , when I along with other few females , tried to talk to officer in charge , they instantly seemed convinced & got into action to get this done , that was a great relief & felt a sense of pride for been able to achieve it but alas it was too early – as soon as police officer tried to make it happen – males in the queue started shouting & making a fuss ! Officer got disturbed of the situation & immediately said “ Madam yeh kya kara diya aapne sab sahi chal raha tha “ and he then stopped trying to make an effort – I along with other females went back to our positions While standing there next 1 hr I kept on thinking & interacting with other fellow people in my queue , got me introspect why it happened- 1.      Was it that (few) males who shouted & made fuss were somehow not comfortable with female taking lead ( few others ) who choose to keep quite were not bothered or either didn’t want to take sides? 2.      Other females who didn’t choose to partner with us ( even it was for there own benefit) have they got accustomed for not taking a stand for themselves ? 3.      Few men who were standing behind me were smiling & kind of acknowledging that the point I made was right ? one of them said Ma’am everyone will not speak ? One though that I felt today with this incident is when we humans, citizens of country try to put things on authorities , its not always about authorities Most of the times its abut us are we ready to change ? are we ready to go out of zone by not accepting things the way it's going considering its normal? Because in this case, for sure, the authorities (Police officer) wanted to do something being considerate & logical – but the society didn’t let it happen #equity #change #taking a stand
