💸 Federal Budget 💸 In this year’s federal budget, approximately $2.5 billion was allocated to ICT initiatives, significantly funding various projects including NDIS Quality and the myGov platform.   Key areas include: 💠 MyGov Platform: $630 million over four years, with $145 million annually from 2027. 💠 Digital ID System: $288 million over four years, totaling over $1 billion since 2015. 💠 Public Sector: Reins in outsourcing by internalizing 8,700 roles. 💠 Future Made in Australia Package: $22.7 billion for technologies like clean energy hydrogen and quantum computing.   Furthermore, additional funding areas include: 〰  Infrastructure: $40 million for First Nations digital inclusion. 〰  Health: $174.5 million for Aged Care ICT infrastructure. 〰  Attorney-General: $161.3 million for the National Firearms Register. 〰  Climate Change, Energy, Environment, and Water: $96.6 million for environmental data improvements. 〰 Defence: $165.7 million for the Australian Defence Industry Development Grant program. 〰 Education: $34.6 million for online learning services. 〰 Employment: $68.6 million for Workforce Australia Online.   These specific investments focus on improving and securing ICT systems, promoting new technologies, and strengthening public sector capabilities.   One of the 2024-25 budget’s cost-savings elements is $1 billion worth of cuts to external labour hire, consultants and contractors. It is a small part of the government’s ambitions to save a total of $77.4 billion in the next financial year.

The big winner in August was the demand for IT professionals. A big jump, up 16%, driven by large double digit increases in all states except NSW and QLD. While public sector recruitment was strong, the private sector demand was driving the index this month. This can be considered a good omen as it often indicates companies investing for productivity improvement and efficiency gains - only time will tell. #recruitment #management #humanresources

Is your data ready to ensure the success of the implementation of your new system? As high as 70-80% of system implementations fail, and of this, it has been cited that as high as 30% of the data in the system once launched is incorrect. In the countless system implementations I have been part of, I always start with “how confident are you on the quality of the data going into the new system, and what is your data preparation plan?”. We are currently working with a client who is moving from outsourcing to insourcing various assets, and is looking for a system to manage the assets once insourced. The challenge they have is the data going into the system is manually constructed in Excel, and lacks governance to ensure it is correct, accurate and timely. If not addressed, this lack of data quality issues will hinder the system implementation, provide inaccurate reports and may also put the insourcing strategy at risk. Prior to any new system implementation, it is critical you ensure your data is secure and fit-for-purpose, and to ensure your processes are documented and optimised. Only then, will you be able to truly realise the envisioned ROI. In addition to data quality, it is also critical businesses understand what data is being captured, where the data is being held and how it is stored to ensure they are meeting regulatory requirements. Great move by the Commonwealth. Moving from a data mindset to a claim/proofing one using attestation moves us to Zero Knowledge Proofs #ZKP. ISO 18013 and 23220 allows these attestation and claims to be shared in a secure way both online and off-line. This has security benefits but also starts changing our mindsets on eligibility. Using the Services Australia Centrelink online portal to submit a Parental Leave Pay claim: An Odyssey. - Internet: You should lodge your Parental Leave Claim online at least 3 months in advance, to make sure they have plenty of time to process your claim, and it's all sorted before your baby is born. - Me: That's great advice, thanks Internet! *Lodges claim online 3 months in advance.* - Centrelink online: One of our officers will contact your partner over the phone to approve your Parental Leave Request (because apparently I need my partner's permission to take Parental Leave with my son, according to the Federal Government). *weeks pass and nobody contacts my partner* - Me: I’m getting nervous. Maybe we should submit my partner's claim, and then I can get permission that way? - My Partner: *Submits claim* - Centrelink online: Ben's partner, your claim has been submitted successfully! Ben will need to submit their claim before the baby is born. - Me: But Centrelink, I have already submitted my claim online. It is waiting for you to get my partner's approval. - Centrelink online: Ben, you still need your partner to approve your leave before you can submit this claim. - Me: But Centrelink, she has submitted her claim, and she has given me permission, but my claim still says that I need her permission. - Centrelink online: Hey Ben, go f#ck yourself. - Me: Fine. I’ll cancel my claim and submit a new one. - Me: *Creates new claim* - Centrelink online: Before you submit your claim, your partner will need to approve your Parental Leave Request. - Me: Oh for heavens sake! - My Partner: *Approves request for Parental Leave.* - Centrelink online: Thanks for submitting your claim! We’ll now process your leave request between the 11th of July and the 18th of July. Which is 1-2 weeks AFTER the baby is born. Services Australia, why do you need to make things so unnecessarily difficult? Did you actually thoroughly test the Parental Leave Pay claim workflow for all paths before releasing it to the public? Or did you just test the happy path? Did you even check that the responses from the online claim are true and correct? If you need beta testers, or even someone to perform some free BA work to make sure these services function properly, feel free to reach out to me! Because if it weren't for my inherent mistrust in the ability of government departments to perform their intended functions effectively, I never would have identified the issue, and my claim would never have been processed. You literally have one job. Do it better.
