A Christmas message from our Founder 🎄 Dear Humanify HR community, Firstly, thank you to every person who has supported Humanify HR since we started out in 2021. In those early days, I had nothing but a vision of how to create better workplaces… and that’s about it. The end of the year is always a great time to reflect, and going into our fourth year in business in 2025, we continue to experience rewarding growth. I am beyond grateful for the opportunities we’ve had to partner with organisations in our home town of Canberra and every great part of Australia. The trust our partners place in us to help them navigate complex people matters is never taken for granted. We appreciate you all and thank you for relying on us to help you create better workplaces. Christmas is a special time to spend with the people we love and enjoy. I hope that you have a safe and amazing Christmas, filled with fun, laughter and relaxation. The Humanify HR office will be closed from Monday 23 December 2024 - Friday 3 January 2025. Merry Christmas! 🎄 🤶 🎁 🥳 🙌 Best wishes and see you all back here in 2025. They call it the ‘silly season’ for a reason. Here are some common examples where people lose their cool, turning what was meant to be a fun moment into a workplace incident that ends up on HR’s desk: 🙅♀️🎅 🚫the CEO inviting people to come and sit on his lap to receive their secret Santa presents. This is not only uncool, but creates a sexual harassment risk that is inappropriate in the workplace. 🎁 👎 🚫buying colleagues lingerie and other sexual items under the anonymity of the secret Santa present. This can be awkward and offensive, again creating a harassment risk that quickly takes the festive feeling out of any celebration. 🍻🥂🚫drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, that can start out fun but generally leads to inappropriate comments, touching and a whole host of incidents you will regret. It’s always best to limit your alcohol intake, you want to enjoy yourself but remember you have to see these people again at work! Work Christmas parties are a great way to let your hair down and celebrate all your hard work, but remember you are still at work. This means that workplace policies that ordinarily apply when you are at work, also apply to your behaviour and conduct at the Christmas party 🥳 With these tips in mind, enjoy your Christmas party! 🎉 🎄 🤩 #ChristmasParty #HumanResources

Workplace bullying is something that happens a lot more than we like to admit. As a psychosocial hazard, every workplace has a positive duty to prevent and minimise the risk of bullying. Eliminating bullying from our workplaces is tricky. The truth is uncomfortable, and employers can find it easier to turn a blind eye than seek it out. Certain cultural norms also exacerbate the problem, including attitudes that "very much" permeate into the workplace, such as "she'll be right, mate", "toughen up, harden up" and "shape up or shape out" – "so I think the Australian culture has a lot to answer for", our Founder, Sarah Queenan recently explained in HR Daily. Jennifer Moss one of our favourite experts on employee wellness has recently written in the Harvard Business Review about the harmful impacts of toxic productivity. In the article Jennifer covers: 👉Burnout Crisis: 82% of workers globally are at risk of burnout due to excessive workloads, exhaustion, and financial strain, as highlighted in the 2024 Mercer Global Talent Trend Report. 👉Psychological and Cultural Roots: Toxic productivity stems from deep-seated beliefs that tie self-worth to constant output and perfectionism, further reinforced by competitive social media norms and workaholism as a coping mechanism. 👉Impact of AI & Meeting Overload: Generative AI and post-pandemic work habits are reshaping productivity expectations, making meaningful change essential for genuine work-life balance. 👉Leadership’s Role: Leaders can model healthy work habits, redefine productivity metrics, and foster environments that respect rest and well-being – the article shares how.
