𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫: 𝐀 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭'𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 Kavya Joshi, a junior and president of the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM), shares her experience at this year’s College of Business Career Fair: "As a first-generation student, attending the Career Fair was all about stepping out of my comfort zone, honing my elevator pitch, and connecting with recruiters like KeHe Distributors, Echo Logistics, and DHL. I realized that these networking opportunities directly aligned with my career goals. I learned how my major translates to real-world roles and how curiosity can help you build meaningful conversations. It’s amazing how much confidence I gained—not just in my speaking skills but also in understanding the value I can bring to a company." Key takeaways from Kavya’s experience: -Networking opens doors to unexpected opportunities. -Confidence grows when you step outside your comfort zone. -Research is crucial—whether it’s refining your resume or understanding a company’s values. -Facing obstacles? Don’t give up. Every experience is a learning opportunity! 𝐊𝐚𝐯𝐲𝐚'𝐬 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞? "Take initiative, put yourself out there, and leverage every opportunity to learn. It only takes 30 minutes of research to create a meaningful connection with one recruiter." The College of Business Career Fair is an invaluable resource for NIU students to gain hands-on experience in networking and jumpstart their careers! #niucob #cobstudents #mgmtmatters

Keep Going! My drive to explore and learn seems to be taking me to some pretty awesome places lately! Over the last couple of months, what started as a low hit is now shining the Go-Getter in me. You know that feeling when you want something, and you set out to get it? I call it "Umph!" Well, I’m on it, focused on building my brand, serving, and giving back as much as I can. I’m confident that I have what it takes. Yesterday, my networking efforts landed me at the ALX Career Fair. Honestly, at first, I felt awkward for being a bit older. There were so many young people, most probably in their early twenties. But guess what? We were all there for the same reason—to learn, grow, and make connections! The panel of HR experts was amazing. They enlightened and empowered us with insights on how to best position ourselves in the job market. Gathoni M. talk on GRIT hit home for me. She broke it down—grit is about being goal-oriented, resilient, having integrity, and communicating thoughtfully. I mean, that’s the kind of wisdom that sticks! She also addressed the pain we experience in workplaces and reassured us that, despite it all, we recover. Every day is a new chance to start fresh, and I could tell many of us needed to hear that I truly appreciate the alx_africa for the well-organized event, you are inspiring us for sure. #ALX #CareerFair #Networking #GoGetter #Grit #Umph #KeepGoing #GrowthMindset #Resilience #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerGrowth #JobMarket #PersonalGrowth #GoalSetting #Leadership #ContinuousLearning #SuccessMindset #HRInsights #CareerOpportunities #Empowerment #AdministrativeExcellence #ExecutiveSupport #LeadershipSupport #OfficeManagement #EfficiencyExpert

SHPE 2024 - A Story of Leadership & Some Feedback One of the most memorable moments from SHPE 2024 happened on the first day of the career fair. It was 4:00 AM 🕓, and a line had already started forming, filled with eager attendees hoping to get ahead. By 5:30 AM, the crowd had grown restless 😓, and the tension was palpable. That’s when Saad Bahlouli stepped up and did something remarkable. With a voice full of courage 💪, he called out to the crowd: “Let’s be civilized and turn this into a single file before they have to manage us.” His words cut through the early morning chaos, and what happened next was inspiring—a roaring applause 👏 erupted from the crowd as everyone followed his lead. In that moment, Saad demonstrated true leadership, turning what could have been a stressful situation into one of unity and mutual respect 🤝. It’s individuals like Saad who remind us of the importance of community and stepping up when it matters most. These are the moments we should celebrate at SHPE—where leadership isn’t just about titles but about action 🔥. Aside from lining up during ungodly hours 🌙 and some logistical issues with luncheon tickets 🎟️, there were definitely areas for improvement. Hopefully, future conventions can address these challenges to enhance the overall experience! On a positive note, I loved Qualcomm's approach to talent acquisition—roaming the convention hall, handpicking individuals who resonated with their values on a personal level. A unique and effective strategy! 💼 To all the companies I connected with—thank you! It truly means the world to me to have met so many talented and deserving individuals making a difference in the world! 🌍✨ #Leadership #EventFeedback #Community #SHPE2024 #CareerFair #Inspiration #Qualcomm

Corinne Mills visited the Crick last week and shared these top tips for building a fulfilling career in science and beyond... ⬇️ 🔹 You’re much more than your job title. Some fields (including science!) use the same job title for completely different jobs. Introduce yourself by saying what you do and why. 🔹 It’s the way that you do it. Expertise and knowledge are important, but behaviour and how you influence the behaviour of others is what builds your reputation and gets you employed. 🔹 Talk positively about yourself. Learn what you’re the go-to person for and know how to describe it to other people. 🔹 Get ready for change. Technological change means that careers now don’t follow the traditional ladder. Be open to a zigzagging career and movement between fields and specialisms. 🔹 People are your greatest resource. Take time to deliberately build and use your network to find opportunities and share experiences. Corinne visited the Crick as part of our Academy’s annual Careers Fest - a week dedicated to career development for people across the institute. We’ve been taking part in careers fairs, panel discussions and workshops on everything from networking skills to taking up new roles abroad.

I recently had the privilege of speaking at a careers fair at my old school, reflecting on my journey from corporate learning to running my own business. Sharing my career milestones and lessons learned with sixth-form students reminded me that the insights I’ve gained over the years aren’t just for those starting out but also for seasoned professionals. Here are a few key takeaways I shared with the students—and ones that apply to all of us: 💡 Embrace new opportunities, even the unexpected. 💡 Build strong relationships and seek mentors. 💡 Learn from setbacks and grow from them. 💡 Develop both hard and soft skills. 💡 Stay curious and committed to lifelong learning. 💡 Take charge of your career by aligning your strengths with the needs of your industry. 💡 Align passion with purpose for long-term fulfilment. These principles have shaped my path from corporate to entrepreneurship, and they continue to guide me in supporting organisations and individuals through training, mentoring, and career development. Have you reflected on the lessons you’ve learned along your career journey? 🌟 Thrilled to Share Insights from Our Recent SME Career Café! 🌟 This April, I was privileged to contribute to an insightful session hosted by SME (the Society of Manufacturing Engineers), focusing on a crucial aspect of professional success: Soft Skills. KEY INSIGHTS FROM THE SESSION: During the SME Career Café, alongside experts like Arthur Hughes, Monica Lawson, and Christie Hasbrouck, we discussed the importance of soft skills. Here are some highlights: ►Effective Communication and Emotional Intelligence are critical for enhancing workplace dynamics. ►Conflict Resolution, Critical Thinking, and Adaptability are indispensable for managing the complexities of modern work environments. ►Arthur and I emphasized the importance of storytelling in interviews, using the CAR (Challenge, Action, Result) approach to showcase adaptability and problem-solving capabilities. Soft skills are more than just essential competencies; they are the foundation of effective leadership and collaboration. This session reinforced their significance, especially as work environments continue to evolve, including shifts toward remote settings. Let’s prioritize the development of soft skills to navigate and thrive in an increasingly dynamic work landscape. Every interaction is an opportunity to practice and hone these critical abilities! READ MORE ON THE SME BLOG: For a more detailed breakdown of the discussions and insights from our SME Career Café on soft skills, visit the SME blog at [SME Blog: Highlights from SME Career Café - What are Soft Skills?](https://lnkd.in/eu86szNQ). MY ROLE WITH SME AND WIM: In addition to the Coffee Cafes, supporting the SME and WiM (Women in Manufacturing) virtual career fair has been a wonderfully rewarding experience. Contributing to discussions that enhance career opportunities and build a supportive network for professionals is something I am deeply passionate about. I'm grateful for the chance to engage with so many talented individuals and to continue learning and growing together. Let’s keep the conversation going! #SMEMembership #CareerDevelopment #ManufacturingExcellence #WomenInManufacturing

✨ "An obstacle to one is an opportunity to another."✨ In every challenge we face, there’s always a silver lining waiting to be discovered. When roadblocks seem insurmountable, it's an opportunity to rethink strategies, innovate, and grow. Whether it's diversifying a team, breaking into new markets, or simply overcoming daily hurdles—our perspective shapes the outcome! I've been in the Texarkana District office a million and one times, and seen the picture below just as many times, I guess it's just the reminder I needed to see this morning while prepping for job fairs for the remainder of the week. Reminder: Every obstacle shouldn't be perceived as setbacks, but as stepping stones toward something greater. I will be sharing this message this week with possible new hires and MTs.💡 #Opportunities #GrowthMindset #Leadership #Innovation #CareerDevelopment #DiversityAndInclusion #recruitment #createyourpossible
