🌟 Thrilled to Share Insights from Our Recent SME Career Café! 🌟 This April, I was privileged to contribute to an insightful session hosted by SME (the Society of Manufacturing Engineers), focusing on a crucial aspect of professional success: Soft Skills. KEY INSIGHTS FROM THE SESSION: During the SME Career Café, alongside experts like Arthur Hughes, Monica Lawson, and Christie Hasbrouck, we discussed the importance of soft skills. Here are some highlights: ►Effective Communication and Emotional Intelligence are critical for enhancing workplace dynamics. ►Conflict Resolution, Critical Thinking, and Adaptability are indispensable for managing the complexities of modern work environments. ►Arthur and I emphasized the importance of storytelling in interviews, using the CAR (Challenge, Action, Result) approach to showcase adaptability and problem-solving capabilities. Soft skills are more than just essential competencies; they are the foundation of effective leadership and collaboration. This session reinforced their significance, especially as work environments continue to evolve, including shifts toward remote settings. Let’s prioritize the development of soft skills to navigate and thrive in an increasingly dynamic work landscape. Every interaction is an opportunity to practice and hone these critical abilities! MY ROLE WITH SME AND WIM: In addition to the Coffee Cafes, supporting the SME and WiM (Women in Manufacturing) virtual career fair has been a wonderfully rewarding experience. Contributing to discussions that enhance career opportunities and build a supportive network for professionals is something I am deeply passionate about. I'm grateful for the chance to engage with so many talented individuals and to continue learning and growing together. What’s your counter-intuitive, half-crazy predictions about your field in the next 5 years?🔮 Do you need a PhD to become a sustainability pro?👩🎓 How does one build a career from putting satellites transmitter on the back of a penguin to a Sustainability Director?🐧 It’s such a delight to moderate the panel discussion joined by Alexandra Monson, Emma Wright, Pooja Sharma and Tarin Cummings to explore career opportunities in Environment & Sustainability within a 35,000-people organisation! My biggest takeaways: ✅We may come from diverse backgrounds, and it is our shared passion and purpose that got us here. ✅Whether our role is operationally focused, client facing, or in a group function, people skills can never be overemphasized. ✅You never know what opportunity a random conversation may open up, when it does, take it! A massive thanks to all panelists who generously shared their insights with candor and humour. And a big thumbs up to Alex Cockerton and Esther Starc who champion the first Ventia Virtual Career Fair which this panel discussion is part of. During Career fairs, there were some booths where I had meaningful conversations with recruiters: starting by introducing myself getting their name, and striking up conversations from an aspect of their firm I found interesting. Then some just told me to scan this QR code and drop their CV. When I received this prompt during last week’s GRADUAN® Career Fair at KL Convention Center last Sunday 26th May, I straight up lost interest, and I walked away. Why so? Just by the attitudes displayed by promoters in the booths alone, you can tell what sort of company culture they have, which traits of character they encourage or discourage in its employees, correlating to them treating future colleagues (us!) My most positive experiences visiting these numerous booths came from these recruiters treating prospective employers with sincerity, and a willingness to share and advise on career prospects. Some encouraged me to explore my own to discover what I wanted to do in their offered graduate programs. From what I learned talking with them, graduate programs do not look at university degrees anymore, what matters is passion and desire rather than qualification to receive a fresh graduate role. There is no need for an Economics or Finance degree to apply for a Banking or Digital Analyst Program anymore. Rather it is now the norm to learn on the spot, to fill up demand for the most crucial skills by training their employees. Hence their search for passionate people who have drives to learn and explore and determination to finish the job. If employers want to poach this type of talent, they should make efforts to fill them not as roles to fill up empty job positions but as a space where creative potential is vested and passion grows. This must start by treating prospective and current employees well, and they’ll soon return the favor. Employers are not entitled to employees' efforts if there’s no meaningful culture, no support or room to grow, to explore autonomously with guidance on their interests and passion. Of course, I should thank those who made an effort to give me a good first impression. Shoutout in particular to: Muhammad Hafizuddin Kamarruddin from Citi, Faizal M. Sudin from Bank Negara Malaysia, Chloe Chan from CIMB, Wilson Kang from L'Oréal, and Muhammad Noor Haq Bahari (an old friend!) from Khazanah Nasional Berhad. P.S: My friends told me that those from Toyota Malaysia, EPF Malaysia, and Maybank received them warmly aswell.

Retail is a people’s business, right? 👏 Everyone at C&A is part of shaping the future of the company. Thus, we love to connect with potential future colleagues to learn about their aspirations and help them find their perfect place at C&A. At the same time, we want to give as many insights as possible into the world of C&A so talents know exactly where they will be working. In the end it’s about creating a real sense of #togetherness from the very start. 👉 One important way to do that is being where our talent is! “At congresses and job fairs we love talking with hundreds of potential new teammates and hearing their aspirations in the fashion industry. We always feel so inspired from all the enthusiasm about C&A”, explains Kim Hübers-Buchmann, Talent Acquisition Associate at C&A. If it’s a job fair like the recent ‘Karrieretag’ in Germany (just see the happy smiles in the picture below) or Mark Cuthbert, our Market Lead Spain, Italy and Portugal, at panel discussion in Spain sharing insights into the benefits of working at C&A – we are always happy to give information: 💡 To give a better understanding of our culture and values 💡 Answer your questions on all the benefits 💡 Give a better idea of how our onboarding programs work 💡 And show development opportunities. That includes for instance job-related trainings, leadership trainings and also internal mobility programs that allow employees to grow within the company. Store days are very popular, as they allow co-workers from the offices to support in the stores, to connect and get to know the business better. Specifically for the colleagues in the stores the STAR program has been designed to help store staff reach their best self and connect with our customers in the best possible way. There are plenty of opportunities to grow with us and shape the future of C&A! 👉 The next two fairs where you can meet us are: 💡 On November 7 in Lisbon, Portugal Mark Cuthbert will speak at the In Retail event 💡 On November 14 in Sankt Augustin, Germany our team will be at the ‚Unternehmenstag‘ career fair We are excited to get to know you there! #LookGood #FeelGood #DoGood #TheFutureLooksLikeYou

Ever wondered how to turn a career fair conversation into a job offer? These incredible panelists shared the strategies to make it happen. A big thank you to Jesse Marrow of The Cigna Group, Miriam Ortiz of The Jackson Laboratory, and Hartford Promise Scholars Ashley Townsend and Kobe Hamilton for sharing their expertise and advice during our Career Fest Prep Session this week! Ashley, recently accepted into Cigna’s Technology Development Program, and Kobe, who will soon begin working full time at The Hartford, joined Jesse and Miriam to help scholars get ready for our upcoming Career Fest in January. Here’s what they shared: 🎯 Research is key: Be intentional by researching companies ahead of time—asking, “What does your company do?” is a big no-no. 🎯 Share your story: Your personal background and experiences are your power—connect them to the company’s mission to make a lasting impression. 🎯 Resume tips: Highlight relevant skills and experiences while avoiding common mistakes to stand out to employers. 🎯 Build aligned experience: Internships or career-related roles are invaluable—even if you’re already working to support yourself or your family. 🎯 Stand out with strategy: From crafting a strong elevator pitch to asking thoughtful, specific questions, preparation sets you apart. Thank you to our panelists for encouraging Hartford Promise Scholars to approach Career Fest with confidence, purpose, and curiosity. We can’t wait to see all the incredible connections and opportunities that come from this event. The future is bright! 💼✨ P.S. If you’re a recruiter looking for exceptional talent and haven’t signed up for our Career Fest yet, spots are filling fast—we’d love to have you join us! #CareerFest #HartfordPromise #ReachingHigher
