APEDA Partners with Odisha's Directorate of Horticulture and Department of Agriculture to Expand #FPOs' Global Market Reach with Palladium as Technical Support Unit. This export initiative has elevated the status of Dragon fruit, fetching a price of Rs 250 to 260 per kg in the international market. The first-ever export of #dragon fruits from Patnagarh, the Balangir district of #Odisha, to Dubai was made possible by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (#APEDA) and the Directorate of Horticulture, with support from Palladium as the technical support unit (#TSU) of the Promotion and Stabilization of Farmer Producer Organizations (#PSFPO) project. On September 4, 2024, about 4 quintals of the high-quality dragon fruit that is farmed #organically were shipped to Dubai via the Bhubaneswar International Airport. The Dragon fruits, known for their vibrant red flesh and superior size were meticulously cultivated using organic practices. Despite their quality, local market saturation had led to low prices ranging from Rs 120 to 160 per kg. However, this export initiative has elevated the status of Dragon fruit, fetching a price of Rs 250 to 260 per kg in the #global #market. 🌾 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 - 𝐏𝐀𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 🌿 A meeting with support from M3M Foundation and DoCC SPJIMR was recently conducted with farmers from Laech village in #Chamba district, #Himachal Pradesh, focusing on promoting #sustainable farming practices and healthier lifestyle choices. The session aimed to educate the #community on the impact of conventional #farming methods and introduce them to alternative, eco-friendly practices that can enhance both soil #health and personal well-being. 1. Farmers were informed about the harmful effects of extensive pesticide and weedicide use, which degrade soil quality and pose #health risks due to toxic residues in #food. 2. The need for eco-friendly farming practices was emphasized to protect soil health, conserve water resources, and safeguard #public health. 3. Local villagers were educated on the nutritional benefits of #millets, such as finger millet and pearl millet. These gluten-free grains have a low glycemic index and are ideal for blood sugar #management and digestive health. 4. The environmental benefits of #millet cultivation were highlighted, including their low water requirements and climate resilience, which make them a sustainable crop for the #region. 5. Farmers and villagers were shown how to make tea from Indian Crown Grass, promoting the use of local #resources and offering potential health benefits. 6. Our small land-holding farmers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar need low-budget innovation, mentorship, government policy support, and input from a young, progressive workforce to change the agribusiness landscape in the region. This region would contribute equally to the #ViksitBharat goal if they had more money and other resources. Life skills interactions with SHG leaders in Bihar have led to transformative outcomes, including enhanced leadership capacities, improved decision-making, and greater confidence in managing SHGs and community affairs. These leaders have developed effective communication skills, enabling them to articulate concerns, influence others, and engage stakeholders meaningfully. Financial literacy initiatives have empowered them with better budgeting, savings, and credit management, while fostering economic independence. Increased awareness of gender and social equity has encouraged advocacy against harmful practices like early marriage and gender discrimination. Strengthened networks among SHG leaders have promoted collective action, driving participation in local governance and collaborative problem-solving. Additionally, enhanced entrepreneurial skills and the pursuit of sustainable livelihood opportunities have bolstered their economic empowerment. Collectively, these outcomes empower rural women leaders to foster social change, improve economic conditions, and inspire community transformation.

The current Economic Survey Report, FY 23-24 highlights the growing concern over the mental health of adults and children. It emphasizes that a healthy mind fuels a healthy body and a prosperous nation. ChildFund India employs a bottom-up approach to support and strengthen the mental health issues of children by collaborating with Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi, India. Our joint effort focuses on the mental well-being of children and their caregivers, including pregnant women, new mothers, children, teachers, and adolescents. In addition to providing mental health support, our mental health intervention aims to raise awareness, challenge negative social norms, and reduce both public and self-stigma. This is helping people identify mental and psychological illnesses and maintain their mental well-being. Through our efforts, we aim to collaborate with state govt and work together to enable children to reach their full potential. Recently, we organized a workshop jointly with the Central Institute of Psychiatry to train trainers on children and adolescents' mental and behavioral disorders.
