Podcast 1: Introduction to the development sector Development economics uses economic theory and methods to design policies that improve critical human development areas such as health, education, employment, etc. The development sector comprises all the stakeholders working on such development areas - governments, private individuals, corporations, and organizations dedicated to social causes. But to achieve Sustainable Development Goals and improve India's ranking in human development, we need a lot more investment in the development sector. Rather than expecting the government to fill this gap, civil society needs to step up. But even with sufficient resources, the sector needs to work towards clear and consistent goals mutually agreed upon by all relevant stakeholders. A major obstacle to coherent and cooperative planning is the need for high-quality scientific data, practices, and systems.
