🌾 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 - 𝐏𝐀𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 🌿 A meeting with support from M3M Foundation and DoCC SPJIMR was recently conducted with farmers from Laech village in #Chamba district, #Himachal Pradesh, focusing on promoting #sustainable farming practices and healthier lifestyle choices. The session aimed to educate the #community on the impact of conventional #farming methods and introduce them to alternative, eco-friendly practices that can enhance both soil #health and personal well-being. 1. Farmers were informed about the harmful effects of extensive pesticide and weedicide use, which degrade soil quality and pose #health risks due to toxic residues in #food. 2. The need for eco-friendly farming practices was emphasized to protect soil health, conserve water resources, and safeguard #public health. 3. Local villagers were educated on the nutritional benefits of #millets, such as finger millet and pearl millet. These gluten-free grains have a low glycemic index and are ideal for blood sugar #management and digestive health. 4. The environmental benefits of #millet cultivation were highlighted, including their low water requirements and climate resilience, which make them a sustainable crop for the #region. 5. Farmers and villagers were shown how to make tea from Indian Crown Grass, promoting the use of local #resources and offering potential health benefits. 6. This meeting marked a significant step towards #sustainable agriculture and healthier dietary habits for the Laech community. *#SustainableFarming #EcoFriendlyAgriculture #HealthierChoices #MilletRevolution #LocalResources

Importance of Conserving Indigenous Cattle Breeds in India Cultural & Agricultural Significance: Indigenous cattle breeds like Desi Cows, Gir, Sahiwal, & Khillari are vital to India's agriculture and culture. They are well adapted to local conditions, enhancing resilience in farming and supporting rural livelihoods. Contributions to Farming Activities: These breeds improve soil health through dung, a natural fertilizer that enriches soil, promotes moisture retention, and supports biodiversity. Cow urine aids in natural pest control, minimizing reliance on chemicals. Health & Well-being: Engaging with cows offers therapeutic benefits, reducing stress and promoting emotional well-being through practices like cow cuddling. Cow-Based Products for Sustainable Living: Cow dung is used in eco-friendly products such as cleaners and soaps, promoting sustainable living & reducing chemical exposure. Global Adoption: Countries like Brazil recognize the hardiness of Indian indigenous breeds, integrating them into their agricultural systems for enhanced productivity. Preserving indigenous cattle breeds is essential for ecological balance, sustainable agriculture, and cultural heritage. Their contributions to soil health, pest management, and holistic well-being underscore the need for their conservation and promotion. #IndigenousCows #NativeCows #DesiGaay #NaatiHaasu #JawariAkalu #DesiCows #CowbasedFarming #OrganicFarming #BioDynamicFarming #knsorganicfarm #TrinchAgro Trinch Agro Devaraddi Agasanakoppa Prakash K V

🌱 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 2024 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 : 𝐏𝐀𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭🌾 In September 2024, PAHAD Trust continued its #mission to promote #sustainable agriculture by engaging with farmers across 20 villages in Chamba district. We organized hands-on training sessions focusing on the benefits of traditional seeds and eco-friendly farming practices. 🌿 Farmers learned about the risks of #chemical farming and were introduced to natural alternatives like composting #organic pest #management, and soil fertility enhancement. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many farmers eager to apply these techniques and reduce their #reliance on harmful #chemicals. 🌱 Our #BeejKhojoAbhiyaan campaign saw enthusiastic participation, reviving indigenous seeds like #millets that are drought-resistant and suited to local climates. We also showcased our work at the #Millet Food Festival in Dharamshala, promoting #local grains that support both #nutrition and #sustainability. 🌾 Through collaboration with Panchayat representatives and local governance, we are working to integrate #organic farming into local development plans, ensuring long-term benefits for the community. 🤝 #PAHADTrust remains committed to supporting farmers as they transition to more resilient farming practices. Together, we aim to strengthen food security and promote sustainable livelihoods in #HimachalPradesh. 🌍 #SustainableAgriculture #OrganicFarming #FarmerEmpowerment #IndigenousSeeds #Biodiversity #MilletRevolution #ClimateResilience #PAHADTrust #HimachalPradesh #CommunityDevelopment Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India DoCC SPJIMR

The rice harvesting season has begun across Punjab. Farmers must use the rice-specific combine harvesters that are more than just efficient and can play a key role in reducing the grain losses and minimizing breakage, which directly improves farmers' profitability. But there’s more! By using these harvesters, farmers can leave behind uniformly chopped crop residues instead of burning them—a practice that significantly contributes to smog in our region. With cleaner fields, healthier air, and preserved soil fertility, we can work towards a more sustainable harvest season. Let’s make this harvest season not only productive but also environmentally responsible. Together, we can take small steps to combat smog and support Punjab’s farming community. #RiceHarvest2024 #SustainableFarming #PunjabAgriculture #GrainLossReduction #SmogFreePunjab #AgriculturalInnovation

Our ‘Food, Farming & Land Programme’ aims to strengthen agroecological movements in the UK and India, working to sustainably grow food while conserving nature and strengthening communities. With two of our partners, AAINA and Sambhav, we are supporting women farmers in Odisha, India to gain skills and knowledge on the importance of seed saving and organic farming, so that they can build seed banks in their villages and long-term resilience for their livelihoods. Due to a global reliance on the use of one-time hybrid seeds, there is a burden on farmers to continue to use these despite the fact they are heavily reliant on chemical inputs and costly to buy. An alternative approach is seed saving - this not only protects the old variety of seeds but also promotes organic farming as an alternative to heavy use of pesticides. We are also partnering with Gaia here in the UK, funding their seed sovereignty programme working to make the UK food system more resilient against climate change and other pressures. Since 2017, the programme has been dedicated to building a movement of resilient seed growers, seed companies and community groups by providing training and a route to market for small-scale producers. Through funding in agroecology we seek to support projects that restore healthy soils and food and farming systems through regenerative agriculture and food production. #foodforthefuture #agroecology #fundingorganicfarming #fundingagroecology #philanthropy #environmentalfunding #foodforthought #seedsaving #seedsovereignty The Gaia Foundation
