From taking climate action by the horns with the Climate Coalition, to waving the open-source flag high with FOSSFwd, and tinkering with some shiny, boundary-pushing new program ideas—2024 has been nothing short of a rollercoaster (the good kind, not the kind that breaks down mid-loop). But we’re not stopping here. 2024 was about building momentum. 2025? That’s when we turn it up. With bold new initiatives in the works (and a few secrets so juicy we’ve locked them in a metaphorical vault), we’re gearing up to outdo ourselves—and possibly confuse ourselves in the process. Our final Google Masterclass for this year took place on the 15th of November focused on Workspace led by Divya Poswal, Shivani and Neel Majumdar. Divya took us through understanding the various tools within the Google Workspace, answering general questions and displayed case studies by other nonprofit organisations. The response to this year’s Google4Good Programme has been overwhelming, with 307 applications received within just 15 days, representing organisations from 24 states across India. After a rigorous selection process, 177 nonprofits have been chosen to join the 2024 cohort. The first session on @Google Analytics took place on October 16th, led by our long term volunteer & mentor from Google Sagar Khetiya, with an impressive turnout of 97+ participants. Thank you for an interactive and engaging masterclass everyone! Here are the takeaways from the session: ➡️ Linking Google Search Console with Google Analytics can provide additional data on organic search performance and SEO. ➡️ User behaviour can be tracked in terms of sessions, new users, and returning users. ➡️ A "new user" is identified based on a unique combination of device and browser. ➡️ High abandonment rates may be due to either content quality or technical issues; addressing technical factors should be the first step. This week, I had the pleasure of attending the Google Analytics Masterclass led by Sagar Khetiya, organized by the Tech4Good Community as part of their initiative Google4Good Masterclasses. As someone new to Google Analytics, with only a basic understanding of the platform, I truly appreciated the patience and clarity Sagar brought to the session. He expertly guided us through our many questions about how Google Analytics can help us achieve meaningful outcomes for our organizations. Here are my top three takeaways from the session: 👉 Define your goal: The best results from Google Analytics come when you're clear about what you're trying to achieve. 👉 Convert your goal into measurable metrics: Data is powerful, but it’s vital to track the right metrics to gain insights that align with your goals. 👉 Reading GA reports: Understanding dimensions and metrics is key to gaining a deeper understanding of your target audience and the data you've collected. 🧙🏽♂️ TinkerHub shared a platform with the innumerable tech wizards and inspiring communities and personalities at IndiaFOSS 2024. The vision of TinkerHub reverberated alongside other community-centered organizations like Tech4Good Community and Tattle Civic Technologies that strive to expand the reach of technology and ensure its safe use. 🚉 TinkerHub made use of a great number of chances in connecting with the visitors, learning from influencers and gaining opportunities to share ideas and missions in the two days at NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bengaluru. 🎙 The talk delivered by Moosa Mehar MP and I. Pranav Prabhu on OASIS leveraging tech skills for social good highlighted the different and diverse ways technology can be manipulated to make a profound impact on the lives of people. ⚒ TinkerSpace stood out as a dedicated initiative in fostering an open source community in a physical sense. TinkerSpace by TinkerHub is a physical space open to everyone to experience, experiment and grow with technology. Moreover, the space is free and open 24/7 with Samagata Foundation and FOSS United as funding partners. 🤖 The VR tour of TinkerSpace Kochi was a highlight that caught the eye of many including Kailash Nadh, CTO of Zerodha who was pleased yet again to have caught up with the team. The effort of our fellow community volunteers in setting up and managing the booth and engaging the visitors truly paid off. 🐱🏍 The journey had been a first time for many who attended the conferences but the glance into the world of Open Source sure left them impressed. The idea of FOSS and TinkerHub draw along the same lines of community-driven innovations.
