What a year it’s been! From taking climate action by the horns with the Climate Coalition, to waving the open-source flag high with FOSSFwd, and tinkering with some shiny, boundary-pushing new program ideas—2024 has been nothing short of a rollercoaster (the good kind, not the kind that breaks down mid-loop). But we’re not stopping here. 2024 was about building momentum. 2025? That’s when we turn it up. With bold new initiatives in the works (and a few secrets so juicy we’ve locked them in a metaphorical vault), we’re gearing up to outdo ourselves—and possibly confuse ourselves in the process. To every partner, supporter, and changemaker who’s stuck with us through the chaos, thank you. You’re the wind beneath our slightly baffling wings. Here’s to dreaming bigger, doing better, and occasionally pausing to wonder, "Wait, how did we pull that off?". #YearWrap #WhatJustHappened #FOSSFwd #ClimateCoalition #TheBestIsYetToCome #Tech4GoodCommunity Rinju Rajan | Anusha Meher Bhargava | Akhila Somanath | Hazel Rolands | Tushar Badhwar | Chandru M | Akanksha Negi | Ajith B M | Praveen Kumar Singh | Prashanth Balasubramanian | Vidya Sridhar Samagata Foundation | Rainmatter Foundation | Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies | Kailash Nadh | Sameer Shisodia | Rajiv Prakash | Dinesh Pai | Vinay Kumar C | Vishnu Sudhakaran | Gautam John | Sahana Jose | Tanya Kak | Abhinav Chidella | Tarun Anthony | Jagdeesh Puppala | Shankar Maruwada | Lakshminarayana K R | hrishikesh parthasarathy | Sai Rahul Poruri | Vishal Arya | FOSS United | Anirudh Menon | Akshay Soni | Subhashree Dutta | The/Nudge Institute | atul satija | Bharath Visweswariah | Supriya Balakrishnan | Gayatri Nair Lobo | Naghma Mulla | Murugan Vasudevan

Starting the day inspired by the future for climate solutions, incredible founders, and how an ecosystem can work together in support. Massive congratulations to Alisha McFetridge, Sean McFetridge, and the entire RainStick team on the announcement of your recent raise led by Stephen Nairne, Althea Wishloff and Raven Indigenous Capital Partners, along with Sevrine Labelle, Anne-Marie Christoffersen-Deb and the BDC Thrive Lab team along with angel investors. Alisha and the team have been previously supported by Leah Perry and the MaRS Discovery District climate team, and they were a finalist in the Spring 2021 National Impact Investor Challenge. Seeing the potential of this team and company continue to be realized is so inspiring, as they continue to navigate growth in a big market with the potential to scale significant impact in water use reduction. It's always inspiring to see different impact ecosystem players coming together to support Canada's best founders and companies to realise scale and success. #cleantech #cleantechnology #climatesolutions #impactinvesting #venturecapital #canada https://lnkd.in/dvMGpQSr

EARTH DAY 2024 Most of us have an idea that we'd like to #MakeADifference, a positive difference, in some small way, right? OK, but it's not always that easy. We are a time poor generation. There are some ways that don't take all our limited time but can still make an impact. If you have #savings or #investments you could be #investing with intention. Investing in companies that are doing positive stuff with regard to the #environment and #climatechange? Companies that take the #EarthDay2024 idea of #PlanetVsPlastics seriously and are doing stuff that makes a positive impact. So how does it work? Well, we start by working through what you don't want. Next, we look at what you do want. Together we build your portfolio to achieve your goals, whatever they are. We've got your back and that's where we stay - with you - managing your portfolio - on hand to answer questions. We'll be there. How does that sound? Ready for some #ImpactInvesting? This week Emilie Mazzacurati and I had the opportunity to attend Battelle's #ICR24 event alongside some amazing and visionary ecosystem and company builders in the climate resilience and adaptation space. Key take aways from this conference: 🔬 Research and innovation is happening across various fields that we can leverage to address adaptation and resilience challenges but we need company builders to realize these opportunities! 🏛 With massive government funding for infrastructure, energy systems, national security, and science comes huge opportunity to fund the next generation of adaptation and resilience founders BUT we need clear demand signals from government and better procurement programs at early stages 🌳 We need to find agile ways to test solutions alongside communities so that we can refine them with impact in mind and solicit feedback from those who stand to gain and lose the most as solutions are commercialized 🏗 Creative and catalytic capital sources are needed to fund new innovations in this space. We urgently need philanthropy, government, and the private sector working TOGETHER to build a capital stack purpose built for resiliency impact! As we learned on climate tech mitigation, it takes a village to build an ecosystem. I'm thankful that our team at Tailwind has the opportunity to work with so many visionary leaders as we create the enabling conditions for scale in the climate adaptation and resilience space. I love how each of these conversations has bits of advice that spans roles and sectors. In this week’s show we sat down with Ramsay Siegal, partner at Earthshot Ventures and asked her to share some advice for founders, sustainability pros, and those who might want to jump into the climate tech space. Takeaways from our conversation: - Everyone should learn to be a salesperson - Good design (or lack thereof) could make or break your business - Avoid the valley of death: Get buy-in and traction as soon as possible - There's a correlation between revenue and impact if you do it right - It’s a better time than ever to be in the climate solutions space You don’t have to have a technical degree to be active in the climate industry, and Ramsay reminds us that every specialty and role is needed as we transition into this new economy. Enjoy the 🎙️ show! #sustainabilitytalk #venturecapital #ESG #climatetecch #lessonslearned #careeradvice #sustainabilitypros

Our own Jane Melia was quoted in this spot-on WSJ article from Yuliya Chernova reporting from #ClimateWeekNYC (Climate-Techs Want to Save the Planet. First They Need to Save Themselves) Yuliya looks at the challenges climate-tech founders currently face in raising new money. Some of it is related to higher-for-longer-interest rates. Some of it is the shifting political winds (Nov 5 can’t come soon enough!). Jane is confident that federal tax credits are durable no matter who wins. While AI is getting a lot of attention, let’s not underestimate the scale and momentum of the clean energy revolution that will solve an existential crisis (hello Helene!). And there aren’t just a few big players trying to create a killer app (no pun intended). Rather climate-tech requires a lot of work in a lot of sectors, and Harvest is proud of our outsize contribution to dramatically downsizing the climate impact of our homes. We’re passionate about decarbonizing your home. Other startups burn brightly for renewable transportation fuels. Still others manufacture solutions to industrial emissions. Competition for investor dollars is fierce. But Harvest has a commercial product that customers love and is already gross margin positive. We continue to attract state and federal grant dollars, and complement that with VC funding. We aren’t standing still – we’re all about Pods in Homes! gift link: https://lnkd.in/gDfDHDVT
