In our experience, it has been rare to encounter parents coming from rural spaces who wholeheartedly support their daughter's higher education, especially when it involves sending them far away. Parental anxieties often hinder such decisions. However, Kusum Korde stands out as an exception. She came from Beed with Ravina for the workshop and stayed for all 3 days on the campus. She works as a farm laborer at other farms and is a homemaker. Meeting her along with a few other parents was one of the most rewarding experiences of this workshop for us. 🌟 Empowering the Next Generation of Social Workers 🌟 I had the privilege of being a speaker at the Eklavya India Foundation first undergraduate residential workshop held on December 6, 7, and 8 in Nagpur, with over 90 enthusiastic students in attendance. In my session on "Opportunities in the Social Work Sector "I introduced students to the field of social work, highlighting its importance and the wide range of opportunities it offers. The session began with an interactive discussion where students shared their thoughts and knowledge about social work. To make the learning process engaging, I organized a group activity. Students were divided into six groups, each assigned the name of a college offering a Bachelor’s in Social Work. Their task was to research and present information about their assigned college. This participatory approach not only encouraged teamwork but also helped them gain practical insights. I also shared information about various scholarship opportunities available for aspiring social work students, aiming to motivate them and make higher education more accessible. I am deeply thankful to the Eklavya India Foundation for providing me this wonderful platform to interact with such passionate young minds. Yesterday, we kick-started our UG workshop, which coincided with the solemn occasion of Mahaparinirvandiwas. We paid tribute to the visionary legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a champion of social justice and equality along with our UG workshop students, PG crash course students, and staff present at the campus. Our mentor, Pritam Sir, aptly reminded us of Babasaheb's profound impact while addressing our workshop. He delved into Ambedkar's critical thinking and its influence on the making of the Indian Constitution, highlighting his commitment to social justice, equality, and individual rights. As we strive to follow his pathway, we're proud to note a significant milestone that we have achieved in this workshop– for the first time, our workshop has seen a higher number of girls participating than boys! With 52 girls and 37 boys, some more students are yet to come by tomorrow morning. Kudos to our UG coordinators who have done an amazing job in counseling and motivating these kids to go out of their village to our campus. We have some parents accompanying their daughters too! This achievement resonates deeply with Babasaheb Ambedkar's ethos. He tirelessly advocated for women's empowerment and education. Our workshop's demographics reflect a small yet significant step towards realizing his vision of a more equitable society. The remembrance ceremony also saw our PG crash course students interact with this workshop batch, sharing their Eklavya experience. It's a joy to witness them thoughtfully leading and guiding the next generation and sharing their transformative stories! We're excited to witness the growth of these 18-year-old minds and their potential to become catalysts for positive change ahead!
