How can institutions—at regional, national, and local levels—engage meaningfully with #youth and align their approaches with the needs and realities of young people today? This question was at the heart of a recent roundtable discussion hosted by the BIC Brussels Office, titled "Strengthening the Relationship Between Youth and Institutions: What Is Needed for Meaningful Engagement?" The conversation highlighted the need to establish a culture of engagement that extends beyond formal mechanisms and which is authentic and inclusive. Participants shared that central to such a culture is the creation of spaces for dialogue which are characterized by mutual respect and a posture of learning—one rooted in a shared commitment to addressing the aspirations of young people.

How Can We Build a Stronger Bridge Between Culture and Human Rights? 🤔 While conducting my #PhD at Queen Mary University of London, I’ve encountered several challenges in making cultural debates more accessible and relevant to the needs of vulnerable communities. I often emphasize that culture extends beyond museums, theatres, cinemas, and other artistic spaces. It’s the collective fabric that binds us together and allows us to create meaningful dialogues across different communities. Yet, there are undeniable challenges that highlight just how vital culture is to any progress on sustainable development and climate action. For instance, the conversation around #justtransition is incomplete without recognizing how each transition is rooted in a specific cultural context. Given its pivotal role in promoting equality, the cultural agenda must be intrinsically linked to human rights so that both can support and strengthen each other. But how do we achieve this when the cultural sector itself sometimes struggles to see beyond its artistic boundaries? Inspired by many cultural colleagues here, I’ve decided to start sharing small reflections from my PhD research to make these ideas more dynamic and open to conversation. In addition to my reading and research, I’ll be launching a bi-weekly newsletter to share insights on Arts, Culture, Human Rights, and Climate Action. I’ll also dive into ongoing projects, such as a recent one we conducted in Ukraine, to encourage dialogue across different fields and do what culture does best: fostering diverse perspectives. On May 21, we celebrate German Diversity Day, and I want to take this opportunity to highlight the often-unseen efforts toward diversity and integration. The EITEP Euro Institute for Information and Technology Transfer in Environmental Protection believes that diversity and integration provide immense value to society.
