#YearInReview ✨ One very inspiring person that we were glad enough to meet this year is Birhan Gebrekirstos Mezgbo. 💝 With support from DW Akademie’s (Re-)Claiming Spaces initiative, she launched the "She Heals, We Heal" project to provide resources to victims of gender-based violence in Ethiopia. 12 podcasts were aired on local radio stations to encourage women to share their stories, fostering a sense of community and support. https://lnkd.in/ey_KAduj

#YearInReview ✨ 2024 has been a busy year for us here at DW Akademie. In March, we met with our colleagues from across the globe during the Akademietage at DW’s headquarter in Bonn to attend workshops, reflect on our work, exchange ideas and make a lot of plans for our current and future projects. 🙌 🤝 🌍 The focus of the event was on strategy, innovation, collaboration, best-practice sharing and training.

#YearInReview ✨ Have you been waiting for a good reason to start learning German in 2025? 👩🎓 💡 We might have one! 👋 At the end of October 2024, a new format of DW Akademie's Educational Programs went online with "Kurz und leicht." For the first time, German learners can improve their German with daily news videos. From Monday to Friday, learners can now improve their language skills by watching the latest news reports. The clearly spoken videos at A2 level train listening and viewing comprehension. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/ePDZ4Mjt

Our #YearInReview ✨ is a chance for us to shine the spotlight on people who fearlessly lead the fight for free media and free societies every day. One of our highlights in 2024 was attending the launch of Public Media Academy's newest hub in Lviv early October. Public Media Academy began with a partnership with DW Akademie Europe and Central Asia to strengthen professional capacities of the public broadcaster Suspilne Ukraine. These early trainings involved building basic journalistic skills and fostering a shared understanding of media ethics, independence, and public service broadcasting. Today, Public Media Academy has grown into a multifaceted media development organization. With funding from the European Union, we look forward to continuing our long-standing partnerships with these organizations in the years to come.

In the age of #artificialintelligence, trustworthy journalism is crucial for providing reliable information, fighting hate speech, and countering disinformation. But the media sector faces a major challenge: Media organizations must leverage AI to stay competitive. However, global trust in news media is low and declining as media users are often skeptical of AI-generated content. In his recent article, Julius Endert argues that journalism can only regain trust if media organizations use AI ethically and transparently. He proposes a three-tiered approach to #AIgovernance in news organizations. https://lnkd.in/ettNZfuE Natali Helberger, AI, Media and Democracy Lab

Initiative H'ART has won our 2024 MEDIA LOVES TECH #startup competition! The team behind CEO Dhafer Amine NASRAOUI helps schools and parents create online videos, audio recordings or online newspapers together with young people. There is demand in Tunisia for creative #medialiteracy tools, but until now no comparable offering has existed. Over the course of the MEDIA LOVES TECH program, the team successfully developed its prototype and explored possible revenue streams. H'art Initiative and four other teams (9rayty.tn, BEDER Organization, AudioGuard, and The Blackhole Magazine) made it to the final round after months of work in the #startupincubator program, refining their ideas and receiving expert mentoring. MEDIA LOVES TECH is an initiative by DW Akademie and our partner Al Khatt and aims to take projects from the idea to prototype to market maturity. Sixty start-ups from Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria have already taken part in the program. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eus9friZ
