First Student, a North American provider of school bus services, has partnered with the Pontiac School District in Michigan and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to deploy 40 new electric school buses and replace the district's entire fleet of diesel buses. The district secured the funding through the EPA's Clean School Bus Program, with a $9.75 million grant award in November 2023 and another $5.9 million grant award in January 2024. The EPA's Clean School Bus program is designed to help school districts replace existing diesel school buses with zero-emission buses. Replacing just one diesel school bus with an electric school bus helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 54,000 pounds annually. First Student intends to transition 30,000 of its diesel buses to electric by 2035 for improved health and well-being of students and communities. The company will start the deployment of the new buses during the 2024-25 school year. Over 50% of school districts who received a portion of $1 billion in federal funding for school bus electrification delayed or canceled their plans due to energy infrastructure challenges. While school bus electrification offers a significant opportunity to reduce emissions and to lower long-term operational costs, there are major challenges, including: - Grid constraints causing years-long delays and costly upgrades - High initial costs - Complex charging and power management requirements - Higher utility bills - Complex development, installation, and commissioning The biggest challenge: scalability. We need simple, flexible, and scalable solutions that can be seamlessly deployed across hundreds of sites. In the article below, we discuss solutions to the most critical challenges to school bus electrification and how the DG Matrix Power Router can help lower costs, reduce deployment timelines, simplify projects, and streamline operations. The issue with all things EV is balancing the loads presented by the vehicles with the available grid. How to best manage that blance is where XLR8america.net can help. We bring together partners that understand how to flatten loads, and manage peaks to keep the economics of the process in line with expectations and the reality of the actual costs.

Did someone say grants? Check out this post to learn how you can use Government funding for your cities electrification!
💰 As the Federal Transit Administration announces yet another opportunity to apply for over $1,000,000,000 in competitive grants under the "Low or No Emission Grant Program", and more than $390,000,000 under the "Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Program". Miller EV Solutions would like to take a moment to highlight the impact of increasing EV infrastructure for the communities. 🚌 Currently over 95% of school buses nation wide run on diesel fuel. The adoption of electric school buses will not only play a role in the clean air initiatives, but will also assist in decreasing fuel and maintenance cost. Saving time and money for the schools that adopt the new electric school buses, will enable them to reallocate those funds to other school initiatives. ✅ The opportunity to receive funding is an incentive for cities to adopt electric bus transportation, for little to no cost. Here at Miller EV Solutions we understand the planning and work that goes into making this possible. With experience in multiple bus fleet projects, one example being the installation of charging infrastructure for a fleet of 10 school buses in Long County, Georgia, we have the experience to meet the needs of federal initiatives. 🌱 Achieving cleaner transportation solutions requires patience and a positive approach. As we move toward sustainable fuels, it’s essential to consider synthetic fuels tested on carbon emission models, balancing energy efficiency with public health and community impact. Clean air regulations must also prioritize the needs and costs to local communities. Continuous testing of sustainable fuels shows that engines can adapt without violating industrial standards. And as we expand alternative fuel corridors, we must recognize that many highways are placed in disadvantaged communities. These communities should be first in line to receive enhanced electrical infrastructure, providing equitable access to cleaner energy. Earlier this month, our we found out that The Arts Based School in Winston-Salem was awarded $345K from the EPA's Clean School Bus Program to purchase an electric school bus. This new program is building a nationwide fleet of electric school buses through a ground-breaking investment of $5 billion to replace existing school buses with zero-emission and clean school buses. So, what's all the fuss about and why is the EPA investing so much money in this? We're glad you asked 🚌 🌍 Electric school buses generate zero tailpipe pollution, allowing students drivers, and the community to be less exposed to harmful diesel emissions. Also, the buses will have reduced maintenance cost and a quiet, clean operation. There's even a potential for fleets to partner with local utilities to feed power back into the grid when buses are not in use and electricity demand is high! Parents and community members: Do you want to see an electric school bus at your local school? #winstonsalem #electricschoolbus #cleanschoolbus
