Western Australian transport operators now have the option to use the state’s new Restricted Access Vehicle (RAV) warning signs. This decision follows a recent Heavy Vehicle Road Signage Reference Group (HVRSRG) meeting, held in response to concerns from the transport industry about the new RAV warning sign requirements set to take effect on 1 January 2025. This adjustment follows WA’s road train operators saying that the new signage regulations could cost industry millions of dollars. Operators can now use these new signs instead of, or alongside, traditional signage, providing flexibility to choose the best option for their vehicle's length and configuration. The takeaways from this: 🚚 Transport operators are not required to replace current 'Long Vehicle' and 'Road Train' signs. 🚚 Vehicles longer than 22 metres can now use existing signs or new graphic signs indicating vehicle length (e.g., 27.5m, 36.5m, 53.5m). There are several benefits of the new optional RAV warning signs, which include more detail for road users (which aids in safer overtaking decisions) and car graphics which helps drivers to understand the length of road trains. With road freight delivering 93% of goods in New Zealand, getting time-of-use charging right will mean freight will be able to be delivered more efficiently to and through busy areas. Getting it wrong will mean yet another increase to the cost to transport goods goes up without any clear efficiency gain. At a time where there is a cost of living crisis, this isn’t an option. Realistic, viable alternatives are critical to success, such as viable alternative routes, effective public transport and ability to change the time of day roads are used. Understanding the networks’ challenges is the first issue policymakers need to grapple with. Auckland commuters, for example, have limited options to utilise the network at different times of day because it is nearly always at or over capacity. To understand road freight movements, the government needs a freight and supply chain data capability. Accurately interpreting road freight movements is going to require a sophisticated digital capability to be developed. The proposal for an MC licence split is advancing after Australian Trucking Association CEO Mat Munro addressed a transport roundtable at Parliament House. The ATA presented plans for driver licensing, training, road safety, and attracting new industry workers. Munro emphasised the importance of splitting the MC licence class into MC1 and the new MC2, requiring extra training and expertise for driving longer combinations. The proposed split would designate A-doubles, B-doubles, and B-triples under MC1, while longer combinations would fall under MC2. Existing MC licence holders with over six months of experience would automatically transition to MC2. The ATA also suggested a driver passport system to help drivers showcase their skills to potential employers, highlighting the need for enhanced skills beyond the legal requirements for truck driving. Centrex Limited (ASX:CXM) is pleased to provide an Ardmore Operations & Stage 1.5 Expansion Update. The Company successfully shipped 10,002t of beneficiated phosphate concentrate from Port of Townsville Limited on the 7th May, with its next scheduled shipment for 17th May. Further, Centrex achieved a record amount of crushed ore, produced concentrate and harvested product for the month of April, reflecting the ongoing ramp up initiatives that are underway at Ardmore. Centrex anticipates selling +55kt of beneficiated phosphate concentrate during Q2 CY2024. Further, the installation of cyclone banks during Q2 CY2024 is expected to allow higher throughput rates during Q3 CY2024 and beyond, contributing to a sharp increase in production and a reduction in operating costs. The Company remains on budget and on schedule to complete the Stage 1.5 Expansion at Ardmore by December 2024, which is expected to unlock a 625ktpa production run-rate of beneficiated phosphate concentrate upon completion.
