🔥 A few weeks ago, my family had to evacuate a campground in the North Cascades due to a forest fire. We specifically chose to camp in early July to avoid the commonly known forest fire season of late August and early September. But there we were, packing up and listening to park rangers about where to head safely and quickly. 🔥 Thirty-two wildfires this year alone have burned up 1 million acres in Oregon and Washington. In previous years the Air Quality Index (AQI) has been so bad, that we've been forced to stay inside, taping HEPA filters to box fans. It made it more difficult to bear the rising heat in a building not equipped with air cooling systems. 😮💨 According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s latest biannual housing survey, only 45% of low-income households in the region have artificial cooling. Sadly, we are among the groups that are disproportionately affected by climate change due to a lower socioeconomic status. This is true of most Washingtonians who live in older buildings designed for an environment and temperate climate that no longer exists. ✊ I'm going to be petitioning fellow renters this month to sign a letter to our property manager and owner to install renewable energy and heat pumps for our building. The UK government's failure to meet its targets for EV charging station installations can be attributed to three key factors:; (1)The slow pace of electrical grid connections: and upgrades!!! (2)The slow speed of the electrical grid connections!!! (3)Operators often can wait months for a grid connection!! Engineering on most projects are a bottleneck and to be successful should be done MONTHS i advance however EVs it is the opposite...so ADD years to catch up. Toss in Government 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 add more years!!! all equals a catastrophe

On street charging failing in the UK ⚡️ This week, Char.gy have come under fire, for their migration of the on street network in Richmond and Wandsworth, which they took over from ubitricity in a recent tender win. Neighbours complained “many vehicles are now unable to charge, and the Char.gy support line are unable to assist”. This comes after months of delays by councils, OZEV and LEVI to deliver any sort of substantial on street network across the UK. The impact this has had on EV uptake is unknown, but likely to be significant, as the rollout of on street charging infrastructure is seen as the way to encourage those who don’t have off street parking, into an EV. The only way residents of terraced housing and apartments will be comfortable switching to an EV, is if they are able to charge close to home. So far, many councils have failed to deliver on their targets, and it remains to be seen when we will see the rollouts needs on streets across the UK. Even if we are to see contracts signed this year, it will still be 12-24 months before any impact is made. We need to build trust that EV is accessible for everyone, and we do that by delivering chargers close to people’s homes. We would love to hear from you! Have you got a story, question or comment? I recently conducted an EnergyPlus simulation of a primary school building in Christchurch, New Zealand, and uncovered an intriguing result that might address the issue of sweltering apartments in Auckland, as recently highlighted in the NZ Herald. The finding is this: the total area of fenestrations is directly proportional to the amount of heat transfer within the building. Trombe walls and triple glazing can be effective solutions, though their success depends on the building’s orientation. Additionally, incorporating a solar chimney can enhance natural ventilation, helping to cool the building during the summer months. #buildingsustainability
