#MiddleEastTensions | It has long been an assumption that the Israel Defense Forces could not pull off an attack like they did yesterday without USAF aerial refuelers. If it did, those Israeli pilots would be on a one-way suicide mission. The Israeli Air Force apparently used over 100 F-35Is in this attack, and at least some of those planes had to fly 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles). The IDF is claiming all aircraft returned from their missions intact. The United States Department of Defense has denied any involvement in the attack. #Israel has proved it can attack #Iran at will independently, and that will change the calculations of capitals across the region. Democracy - what Democracy? “The tyranny of the majority.” John Adams. Thomas Jefferson purportedly claimed that democracy can often resemble mob rule, and in the case of America’s current political sphere, this saying has a ring of truth. According to a 2022 Pew survey, only 32% of American adults felt that the two primary political parties adequately align with their views. That means that an overwhelming majority of Americans (200 million) are not happy with the current government and election process. To become truly democratic, the US political system must reform. As Robin Williams said: ''Politicians should wear jackets like Nascar drivers, then we would know who owns them.'' A profound statement and reality. The US public is finally waking up to the realities of its corrupted government. To make matters worse, the champions of these polarizing elections are then indebted to the rich who funded their campaigns, rather than to the constituents they were elected to represent. From the outset, the two-party system was condemned at the highest level. “The alternate domination of one faction over another…is itself a frightful despotism,” warned the first U.S. president - George Washington. In recent decades, tensions and violence have risen across the country. Both parties continue to adopt harmful and legal tactics, in an attempt to cut the other down and gain supremacy. The American public suffers as a result. With the 2024 Presidential Elections around the corner, in excess of $2billion has been spent on campaigning. That money will ultimately be at the cost of the Trickle Down Economy via Tax Deductible Donations, aka, heavily disguised lobbying/gambling. Make no mistake, the U.S. Presidential Elections have been tampered with and abused for many years - not always by external regimes and adversaries - but those much closer to home. There's too much riding on it and its got nothing to do with Democracy but Control, Power, and Greed. #AmericanCrisis | How many of us are thinking about solutions beyond November 5th that get us out of this cycle? How many of us will still have relational #influence across the divide after November 5th? Most of that has already been squandered through divisive rhetoric and namecalling. November 5th is not the end. It is only the beginning. It would be one thing if it's just citizens who get angry over the results. Elected officials will empathize with their constituents, lending legitimacy to their voices. This will create a multi-faceted problem that will grow well after one of the two candidates is inaugurated on January 20th, 2025. No well-known leader in America today has the influence to lead both factions through this. This is not a “Him” or “Her” problem… it’s an “Us” problem. Start there.

Observing China’s blockade of Taiwan during Exercise Joint Sword 2024B brought me back to my time as an officer cadet at Malaysia’s Royal Military College, where one of the core tactics we trained in counter-insurgency was to cordon and isolate the objective before launching an attack. The logic was clear: cut off the target from support, contain its ability to respond, and only then, strike decisively. This tactic resonates not just in military operations but also in today’s strategic landscape—whether it’s managing geopolitical challenges or safeguarding business interests. The importance of preparation, isolation, and timing in neutralizing threats is as relevant now as it was then. As we navigate complex and dynamic environments—be it in national security, physical security, cybersecurity, or corporate strategy—understanding how to contain and mitigate risks before they become critical is key to success. #MiddleEastTensions | DEAR TEHRAN... #Israel destroyed a secretive #missile production facility in northwest #Syria last week in an attack that included inserting special operations forces by helicopter to retrieve equipment and documents. The operation was carried out by the Israeli Air Force’s elite Unit 5101, more commonly known as Shaldag (“Kingfisher”). The Israeli special operations unit killed several Syrian guards during the raid, but no Iranians or Hezbollah militants were hurt. There were no Israeli casualties. NOTE: Reread the last two sentences. The capability to selectively use lethal and non-lethal effects based on target identity in a high-risk combat environment is notable. Not only did the raid strike at the heart of the #Iran’s military presence in Syria, but it also sent a clear message to Tehran that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) can and will attack deep underground complexes with ground troops that it otherwise cannot destroy from the air. These recent calls for the use of Special Operations Forces against the Mexican drug cartels ignore that the latter has developed capabilities perilously close to the former. Video evidence and Mexican officials have long revealed that the various cartels, particularly Los Zetas, the Sinaloa Cartel, and Jalisco Cartel New Generation (CJNG), possess the force-multiplying equipment of a formidable asymmetric military force. Examples include the possession of armored vehicles, the use of armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), man-portable heavy weapons systems, as well as the possession of surface-to-air missiles and numerous crew-served weapons. Beyond equipment, the cartels, chiefly CJNG, have benefited from extensive tactical training, knowledge passed to them from Mexican military defectors, ironically enough, who were trained by US Special Operations forces. The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) is stepping in to fill the void in fentanyl production, positioning itself as the rising and enduring cartel likely surpassing the Sinaloa Cartel. Internal conflicts among Ismael Zambada, "El Mayito," and Los Chapitos have created disruptions in Sinaloa's fentanyl operations, allowing the CJNG to take advantage of the situation. #MiddleEastTensions | It was slightly surreal drilling this past weekend with my Army National Guard unit while my US Navy and United States Air Force colleagues were shooting down missiles and drones half-a-world away over the Levant to protect #Israel. It's a different feeling than when we were still in Afghanistan and Iraq. Those conflicts, while dynamic, were known entities. We're used to knowing about mobilizations 12+ months out. The way events are headed, we're going to have to be ready to mob in 4-8 weeks. And that's just one half of the equation for Title 32 National Guard units. The recent jihadist attacks in Sydney, Australia and the open support of #Iran on the streets of Toronto, Canada remind us that the threat is not thousands of miles away. The threat may be just miles away here on the Homefront. We need "Tier One" here at home just as much as we do overseas. Perhaps more. I ruck in my military gear along roadways for multiple reasons. One reason—to remind the public that... We are here. We are ready. We will respond. We will endure. Recent events was excellent motivation for another ACFT (US Army combat fitness test) yesterday. Got a 2-mile run personal record at age 41. There's a reason why. Can the United States juggle various stages of combat support in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the western Pacific simultaneously, while being ready to transition into Large-Scale Combat Operations in multiple theaters and mobilizing an already-stretched National Guard to support? Could Iran Attack the Cotswolds? Israel must weigh whether to escalate or de-escalate its broader conflict, and whether Iran’s missile strikes were merely a face-saving gesture to keep its proxies on board or a signal of a more dangerous confrontation ahead. Iran’s sleeper cells, embedded in Western nations, helped by open borders policies, could be activated if the regime feels existentially threatened. These dormant cells pose a threat not just to major cities but also to smaller, less prepared communities across the UK. In 2016, after a wave of terrorist attacks, London Mayor Khan remarked that "terrorist attacks are part and parcel of living in a big city." French President Macron echoed similar sentiments in 2019, acknowledging that French citizens must "learn to live with the threat of terrorism." While some saw these statements as signs of complacency, others understood them as a pragmatic reflection of modern security challenges. Despite the devastation of past attacks, the British and French populations have shown resilience, quickly returning to their routines. This response challenges the very concept of "terror" because despite the personal tragedies caused by these attacks, the long-term societal disruption sought by terrorists has largely failed to materialise. While some argue that ideological goals have advanced in subtle ways, such the incorporation of Sharia-inspired laws, sustained fear has not taken hold. The British public’s swift return to work after each attack demonstrates their determination, with even the disruptions of COVID-19 proving more effective in changing daily behaviours. However, the story may be very different for as yet untouched rural communities. Large cities, with well-developed emergency services and recovery plans, are prepared for such attacks. In contrast, a remote village, with limited or no nearby police presence, could be decimated before any help is even summoned. An attack on such a community would shatter the sense of safety that currently exists in these peaceful areas, instilling fear at a national level, to include large city populations. Logistical implications are also significant. The police would need to station officers in every village, a task beyond their resources. Meanwhile, the British military, already at its lowest manpower levels in decades, would be stretched thin, forced to redeploy personnel domestically, affecting its overseas capabilities. Furthermore, the UK government's somewhat warped approach to human rights, would likely prevent it from implementing internment measures, even with an estimated 3,000 free-roaming individuals linked to Islamic extremism currently being monitored by security services. The psychological impact of a rural community attack would far exceed those of any urban incident, fundamentally altering the public’s long standing belief that the government is capable of protecting them, thus permanently altering the social fabric of UK society.

Ecuador has introduced its first Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, specifically designed to meet the operational needs of its Naval Infantry. This armored vehicle, named Blindex Armorings C.A-Hino Dutro 716, was officially deployed by the Ecuadorian Naval Infantry on October 27, 2024. This addition to Ecuador's tactical fleet reflects the nation's commitment to strengthening its defense industry and meeting its security requirements independently. The Blindex Armorings C.A-Hino Dutro 716 is built with a monocoque body in ballistic steel at NIJ Level III, providing protection against 7.62 x 51 mm NATO rounds. The vehicle's interior is divided into two main sections: one for the driver and another for troop transport, with a capacity of up to ten occupants, including the driver and a gunner. Its diagonal structural design maximizes impact resistance and enhances projectile deflection. Although acquisition costs have not been disclosed, the vehicle's innovative design and local production underscore Ecuador's efforts to meet its security needs. The panoramic and side windows are made of NIJ Level III ballistic glass, effectively shielding against 7.62 x 51 mm NATO rounds and equipped with additional protective features. The vehicle includes various systems aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and passenger safety, such as air conditioning, a temperature deflector, thermal insulation, front and rear security cameras, a dual intercommunication system, a fire suppression system, and a control panel. Additionally, the vehicle has a hydraulic front shovel and a 180W LED light bar for increased nighttime visibility. The vehicle's hood and front mudguards are reinforced with NIJ Level IIIA armor, while the front and rear bumpers are bolstered with ballistic steel. The floor is armored to NIJ Level IIIA, and a top hatch is available for weapon station installation. A unnerving question to U.S. and Mexican national security officials: How did the CJNG and other drug cartels come to possess military grade FGM 148 Javelin infrared-guided, missile launchers, combat bomb-dropping drones, land mines, special operations' .50-caliber sniper-rifles, Army armored vehicles, and other sophisticated military weapons, technology, and systems? Do they possess WMDs or components to make a crude nuclear bomb? The U.S.-made Javelin is the most sophisticated shoulder-fired missile launcher in the world, with a range of a mile and a half. Its main purpose is to destroy military tanks, but it also has the capacity to take down low-flying helicopters. A Mexican federal Secretary of Security official, who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity, recently said authorities confiscated two Javelins from a faction of the New Generation Jalisco Cartel. According to some news reporting, it is believed that cartels began buying guided missile launchers in part because rival criminal gangs were building tank-like attack vehicles whose armor can no longer be pierced even by the high-powered, .50-caliber Barret rifle. The .50-calibers were used by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to strike targets from nearly two miles away. While the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that 70% of firearms confiscated in Mexico between 2014 and 2018 that were submitted for tracing originated from the US, Mexican cartels have also acquired a broad range of weaponry, including assault rifles, grenade launchers, drones, anti-personnel mines, anti-tank weapons and grenades, from Central American governments. The illicit markets providing these weapons originate from other countries such as #China, #Russia, #SouthKorea, and #SouthAfrica and even Europe and #Israel. However, the United States remains the biggest source of weapon imports as noted above.
