Always start with an SEO audit! That’s the rule I impose internally before we can work with a client. If the prospect disagrees, we don’t work with them. Simple. We lose more opportunities because of this than we gain, so why insist on it? There are two main reasons. 1. It’s our process: we are a highly process-driven business with processes and checklists for everything. It makes us more efficient and effective in what we do, It makes everything more predictable, including our results. We have a simple rule: If it’s repeated more than once, then there should be a process for it… we’ve even got a process for making a brew. Nah, not really. But, come to think of it, that’s not a bad shout. Secondly, it sets a definitive “line in the sand.”. A point in time from before we started working with a business and anything beyond that. This way, we can map out the route we take depending on the findings of the audit and the recommendations we propose. It also forms the basis of the strategy we propose and how we can bring value to a potential client based on what we’ve discovered and the prospect's objectives. I can’t vouch for competitors, but I have heard some horror stories when onboarding new clients, which suggest to me that there is little due diligence being taken to give clients the best possible advice but also to protect both parties from poor SEO/marketing practices. PPC campaigns take time to bed in!! Sometimes, we can hit it straight out of the park but often this is the exception rather than the rule. While paid search will instantly start driving traffic to your website, it takes time for your campaigns to start driving serious results. It's naturally all about optimisations. Looking at what's working and what is not working, then pointing the budget according, whether that is pausing poor keywords or stripping kingpin terms into separate campaigns. I’ve audited a few ecommerce performance max setups recently, and there’s a couple of themes that have come up. The first being that for some reason the shopping / listing structure tends to get neglected on the back end. I’m not sure whether it’s because people view it as Pmax, and there’s multiple areas to tend to. However, that doesn’t mean you should have -All Products as your only identifier on the backend. This offers no insight to you as an advertiser, or information around what categories or campaign types are working. Pmax does house multiple campaign types, however without a doubt the most important inventory for an e-commerce retailer is Google Shopping. This is where the majority of your ad spend on this format should be going. This means ensuring good hygiene across both your core feed and how your categories are formatted, and the structure on the front end. In some cases just running feed-only Pmax, or standard shopping Is better if you’re only getting junk placements across display and search. The second is that Performance Max often has its performance padded by branded terms. Pmax is a bit of a black box, and won’t share insight into what it’s bidding on. However, I fully believe that Pmax isn’t the place for brand terms, this in my opinion should be controlled with a separate campaign. Why would a potential client choose your agency over others? I figured it out: - you specialise in their industry - you specialise in the “thing” (SEO, PPC, design etc) - you have case studies for companies similar to theirs - you clearly demonstrate your processes - you are outcome focused - you are transparent with pricing upfront - you don’t lock people in - you make it as risk free as possible Don’t focus on a pretty website and logo. Focus on a no brainer offer.

Do you know what sucks about being an agency owner? Watching “so-called agencies” RUIN reputations for other agencies I am FED UP of seeing people watch a few YouTube videos and then launch an “agency” because someone has told them that they can make £1,000,000 in 90 days working 2 hours a day BULL CR*P and if this is you, I hate you Yes, it might be easy to sign a client But RETAINING that client is HARD Delivering RESULTS for that client is where the ££££ is at AND, if you’re NOT driving results, then you’re NOT going to retain, and that business owner is going to have a SOUR taste about the word “agency, FOREVER I’m a strong believer that unless you’ve either ran a business before, worked in marketing, or are an absolute genius, you CANNOT just set up an agency I had ran 4 e-commerce companies myself, and exited 1 before launching Eventus Agency It takes having SKIN IN THE GAME to really know what you’re doing, especially when you’re spending ££££ A good agency cares more about your STRATEGY and focuses on all of the ins and outs of your business They don’t just focus on one area that they’re paid to do I.e. if we’re running paid social for a client, best believe that we’re all over their website, email marketing, fulfilment processes, customer service, etc WE WANT TO KNOW IT ALL Because without this, how on earth are we meant to scale a brand that might not even be ready to scale? 9 years of SEO for 100s of clients has taught me this... The easy part is finding optimisations. The hard part = 🎯  Prioritising work against wider business goals 🙏  Getting buy-in from the leadership team 👨‍🏫  Educating stakeholders on modern SEO 💰  Securing enough budget to get results 📈  Measurement/tracking to show ROI Knowing what optimisations to make is the tip of the iceberg. Actioning them in a busy organisation with limited resources is the hard part. A great SEO strategy will factor in these five key things. Explaining clearly how some seemingly random optimisations will improve traffic and get results. This helps the wider company see the value and benefit to them. And everyone gets behind and supports your suggestions. Without this, your SEO efforts will fail.

Social media #agencies are sinking left & right. Three clients in the last month have had issues with agencies failing to pay them. When I’ve approached the agencies more than one has said they’ve gone out of business. Dare I say this is healthy for the #creator ecosystem. Management agencies can be some of the most predatory, seedy, & unnecessary parts of the creator economy. I’ve seen them sign creators onto 3 year terms without giving them a way out. Others have threatened to bad mouth creators to brands if the creator stops working with them. Many don’t pay creators on time. They aren’t all bad, but there’s many bad actors in the social media space which remains a Wild West, & agencies are no exception. Last September my client ranked for 21 non-branded keywords in the top 3 positions. This September they are ranking for 1,827. After creating a whole new site structure, content, internal linking structure etc etc, we’ve got the site into a much much healthier position going forward. Their YoY traffic from non-branded terms has 19x’d. It’s also 3x’d included branded terms. A previous heavy over-reliance on brand search has now been flipped, with 55% of organic traffic now coming from non-brand search, meaning that is now the majority. This has resulted in just shy of £90k organic revenue uplift (YoY growth) in August alone, which isn’t a peak month either. The work we have conducted also seems to have worked nicely with the latest Google Core Algorithm update, with increased performance since the roll out has been completed. PPC and SEO: What's the difference? Both PPC and SEO help to increase the visibility of your business online by placing your website content on search engine results pages (SERPs) but they achieve it in different ways and timescales. If you're looking for quick results, opt for PPC. You'll be paying for your ads to appear at the top of SERPs when users are searching for the keywords you're targeting. SEO is a longer-term strategy to get your pages to organically rank higher in SERPs for target keywords. The results aren't as immediate as PPC but if you are continually working on optimising pages, your should consistently see your content rank highly.
