Great article! I agree 100%, having completed many tenders, the only questions asked that tend to be people-centric are "Is training provided?" and "Will post go-live support be included?". I've never seen questions such as "Is the user interface designed for users with varying needs?" Having spent a decade or more implementing enterprise solutions for the NHS, something often missed is explaining the "why" to our users and ensuring they understand the vision so they are bought into the solution not just part of it. We should spend time advertising the benefits that resonate directly with the individual user. In many circumstances, I've seen solutions make one user group's job harder but another's significantly easier, but the trade-off is never discussed openly. People matter.

Security…it’s the hot new topic on the cocktail circuit. Well not really, but it’s progressively keeping more CIO’s CDO’s, CMO’s, all the C’s really, up at night. For those of us designing and developing digital products and experiences with containers of customer data, this is so important. James Doyle’s breakdown of security principles is a worthy read. Plainly worded, this post is a good primer of what you should expect in terms of principles and practices during product development. Yes, it’s the shallow end of a very deep pond, but if you’re not already in these waters, I’d suggest you start exploring.

As expected, growth and investment is the underlying message behind the UK Government’s Autumn Budget. When we talk about economic growth, we cannot leave technology out of the equation. We are at an interesting point in time for the UK, where business leaders recognise the great potential of technology as a growth driver leading to impactful business transformation.     AI is, and will increasingly be, one of the biggest technological drivers behind economic growth in the UK. In fact, recent research from ServiceNow, has found that while in the UK, AI-powered business transformation is in its early days, British businesses are among Europe’s leaders when it comes to AI optimism and maturity, with 85% of those planning to increase investment in AI in the next year. It is clear that appetite for AI continues to grow- from manufacturing to healthcare, and education. Feeling vulnerable? I thought not… In the first of Manyone's #CX Spotlight series in relation to the recent #ConsumerDuty deadline, we’ve taken a look at the issues, challenges and opportunities around what the FCA terms ‘Vulnerable customers’. We think vulnerability is a useful and underused concept in #CX beyond banking. You don’t have to be trying to bank a cheque or delay a car repayment to be more/less likely than others to walk a happy path. But we also think the very language and standard practices around ‘vulnerability’ carry their own risks, including (but not limited to): - ‘Flag and Tag’ approaches creating blindspots re. situational vulnerability - Poor control around patronising practices (looking at you TEXAS) - Stereotyping/categorization-bias ignoring intersectionality in vulnerability - An emphasis on weakness-as-exception over inclusion-as-norm - Acceptance of commitments over demonstrations of progress Of course, the irony in all of this is that if — from a position of power, as most financial service providers are — you ask a customer to confirm that they are vulnerable, they are almost certain to conceal that they are, as any alternative would only make them more vulnerable. The UK has a new government 😲 What does this mean for NHS digital transformation? It's encouraging to see the new #Labour government committing to the #NHS with plans for 40,000 additional appointments per week and a focus on leveraging existing technology like the NHS app. Their intention to harness AI for #diagnostics highlights their recognition of the crucial role technology will play in the future of the NHS and social care. However, Labour's manifesto lacked specifics on implementation and funding. Now in power, they need to deliver on their promises. One immediate step is expanding the digitisation of services like social prescribing, which reduces GP workload and supports mental health patients. Tech-enabled care also offers a practical solution, allowing people to manage their conditions at home, allowing social care services to operate more efficiently. Instead of starting from scratch, the priority should be on expanding digital initiatives within the NHS and social care, sectors that have often been neglected.
