About us

SAWEA is an industry association representing the Wind Energy Industry in South Africa. We are a non-profit entity. Our members include both national and international actors who are active in the entire Wind power supply chain. Our aims are: to promote the sustainable use of commercial wind power in South Africa; to contribute knowledge and time to the development of policy and regulatory frameworks for wind in SA; to facilitate synergy between the growth of the industry and the achievement of the broader socio-economic aims of Government (including local economic development, training, job creation and rural development); to disseminate information relevant to Wind power supply; to act as a focal point for discussion between members, government, media and the public.

  • INDUSTRY EVENT: Keynote Presentation - Sonwabo Damba on the Remodelled Draft IRP 💡🌍 We were privileged to have Mr. Sonwabo Damba, Energy Planning Specialist, present the remodelled draft Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) at today’s Turbine Talk Network. 🙌 In his insightful keynote, Mr. Damba outlined the IRP's key objectives and methodology, shedding light on South Africa's future energy landscape: 🔌 Ensuring Security of Electricity Supply Planning for adequate capacity to meet demand and creating a system resilient to disruptions without impacting supply. 💰 Minimizing Electricity Costs Least-cost system planning, balancing environmental and lead-time constraints, to reduce costs for the economy. 🌱 Minimizing Environmental Impact Strategic planning to reduce both global and local emissions while achieving energy security and affordability.
