VARD part of the world's largest research initiative to strengthen green maritime development.🌍 FME Maritime Energy Transition (MarTrans) is an 8-year collaborative project with 65 partners from the maritime industry and research environment. The focus is research, innovation, and education to accelerate the green transition in maritime shipping, while increasing value creation and exports for the Norwegian maritime industry. Vard's role in FME MarTrans is to contribute with financial support and resources in various projects. The research centre also serves as a "birth unit" for new collaborative projects between the partners. - This will be an important arena for networking, cross-border collaboration, and an arena to add relevance to the research work, says Håvard Vollset Lien, Vice President Research and Innovation at VARD. 🚢🌱 The world's largest hydrogen ships will be built in Norway. #Norway #hydrogen #vessels #maritime #innovation 🔍 Norway at the forefront of maritime innovation with this new project. Norway is at the forefront of maritime sustainability with the announcement of the construction of the world's two largest hydrogen ferries. 🛳️ This project, realised by Torghatten Nord in collaboration with the Norwegian shipyard Myklebust Verft, not only symbolises a technological breakthrough, but also reinforces the commitment to environmental protection and local economic development. 📍 Built at Myklebust Verft, located in Gursken, these ferries will be 117 metres long and will be able to carry up to 120 cars each. Their route will connect Bodø to Lofoten, the longest in Norway, setting a new precedent in the industry in terms of capacity and size. 🌊 At the heart of this innovation lies the use of green hydrogen as the main energy source, covering 85% of the Arctic journey. The EUWT-SE (EUROPEAN WATERBORNE TRANSPORT SYNERGIES ECOSYSTEM) network comprises seven European-funded projects in the field of waterborne transportation. BlueBARGE joins this prestigious group alongside FLEXSHIP, HYPOBATT, SEABAT, AENEAS EU Project, NEMOSHIP, and DT4GS - The Digital Twin for Green Shipping. The main goals of this network are: 🔹Adopting common #bestpractices, expanding the dissemination and exploitation of individual project results for the benefit of the #waterbornetransport sector. 🔹 Proposing future #EU policies, removing barriers hindering the successful application of project results. 🔹 Sharing and harmonizing results with ongoing R&D projects focusing on fleet decarbonization and electrification, facilitating compliance with international and EU emission targets. 🔹Facilitating open innovation principles while safeguarding IPR rights of technology providers.
