Another step in the journey of the ‘third renewable’. Wave power is maturing as the predictable, more energy dense and more constant source of renewable energy the world needs. #BlueEconomy #BlueCarbon #Renewables

The conditions set by the Danish government for early hydrogen investors are currently unworkable. Requiring a €2 billion investment to be contingent upon other projects happening simultaneously indicates a lack of recognition of the strategic importance of hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) production. While we are prepared to commit to pipeline capacity up to our maximum production, it is impossible to go beyond this. Expecting off-takers to finalise contracts based on the assumption that other large-scale PtX projects will make investment decisions at the same time is unrealistic, given the typical 3-5 year project development timeline. Denmark risks missing out on the rapidly growing European hydrogen market, particularly with Germany's projected need for 1.4 to 2.8 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. Today’s pipeline announcement from Germany further highlights its clear commitment to securing hydrogen supply. The market won’t wait, and delays in Denmark’s infrastructure, such as pushing the pipeline timeline from 2028 to 2031, put at risk PtX investments worth DKK 150-300 billion. The upcoming North Sea offshore wind tender, scheduled for 5th December 2024, is very unlikely to achieve its full potential. Large-scale PtX producers, including H2 Energy Esbjerg, are unlikely to bid for PPAs due to the unacceptable commercial risk posed by reliance on simultaneous investment decisions by other developers. This gap in policy framework not only threatens Denmark’s competitiveness but also weakens its renewable energy strategy. Addressing these issues through better coordination between policymakers and industry is essential to unlocking the full potential of hydrogen and PtX development. #dkpol #PtX #Brintrørsaftale #Vindudbudikkeoptimeret #greentransition
