Disease is nothing but a disturbance of homoeostasis. This disturbance manifests itself outwardly in the
form of various signs and symptoms ( which are felt by the patient himself, remarked by those around
him & observed by the physician {$6 organon of medicine} ) . These include deviations from the previous
state of health both at the physical and mental level. When considered as a whole , this combination
forms the true & only conceivable portrait of disease .
AVENUES OF PRRSCRIBING-
To exemplify
A patient presenting with pain , we have a number of remedies for that but the differentiation can be
done on the basis of concomitant mental symptoms.
(B) Psycosomatic evaluation helps us to ascertain if there is any emotional exciting cause for the ailment.
Which can guide towards the selection of similimum .

WE, AS HUMAN BEINGS ARE NOT JUST CORPOREAL-PHYSICAL BEINGS, BUT ARE
GIFTED WITH MIND WHICH INTURN IS GOVERNED BY EMOTIONS. DR KENT HAS
CLASSIFIED THEM INTO WILL, INTELLECT AND MORALS.
THUS PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION NOT ONLY HELPS, BUT IS THE ONLY WAY OF
TREATING PHYSICAL ILLNESSES-- THERE ARE NO DISEASES BUT SICK PEOPLE!

Sir,
If we really want to practice homoeopathy preached by Dr Hahnemann
then there should be no confusion regarding whether psychological
evaluation of a person /patient is essential or not in treating that
person's disease because Hahnemann has himself stated very
categorically in the aphorisms 210 onwards, the importance of such
evaluation. He clearly has stated that the state of the disposition of
the patient often chiefly determines the selection of the Homoeopathic
remedy, as being a decidedly characteristic symptom which can least
of all remain concealed from the accurately observing physician (211).
The therapeutic agents also has particular regard to this main feature
of all diseases, the altered state of the disposition and there is no
medicinal substance in the world which does not notably alter the
state of the disposition and the mind in healthy who test it, and every
medicine does it in a different manner.(212)
Therefore we shall never be able to cure conformably to nature i.e
homoeopathically if we do not in every case of the disease even in
acute, observe along with the other symptoms those relating to the
changes in the state of mind and disposition. (213).
Also the so-called mental and emotional diseases are nothing than
corporeal diseases in which the symptom of derangement of the mind
and the disposition peculiar to each of them is increased, whilst the
corporeal symptoms decline till it at length attains the striking one-
sidedness, almost as though it were a local disease in the invisible
subtle organ of the mind or disposition.(215)

Psychological evaluation of a person is helpful in treating his
physical ailments?
YES.
It is less than fifty years since when the modern medical science has
accepted that more than three fourth of the diseases are psycho-
somatic in nature. This is almost two centuries after the father of
homeopathy originally enunciated this concept.
One just cant move an object by moving the shadow. So treating the
body alone is like treating the shadow and leaving the object (i.e.
mind) untouched. It is a well-known fact that negative emotions and
stress reduces immunity, vitality and self-healing ability of the body.
So treating the body is like treating the effect and leaving aside the
mental status is like leaving aside the cause.

Hello Mam,
Health is defined as the state of Physical, social and Mental well being. Its a state of
a balance between external stimulus and patient's inner environment (his thought/
intellect/ emotion). The type and magnitude of a person's response to an external
stimulus is a product of the impact it creates on the mental picture and so hence it
varies among the individuals . This holds true in cases of disease as well. Since
every individual responds differently to same stimulus (in this case disease), it is
highly important to have a individualistic approach to treatment and the only way to
do it is by understanding the psychology of patient and to prescribe for the patient
and not for disease.

Definitely yes. Psychological evaluation wil definitely help in improving the physical ailments of a patient. The
mental generals are a part of the totality of symptoms. Until and unless we consider the totality of symptoms for
prescription the complete cure of the patient is not possible. Mental generals are of highest grade as we
consider them for a prescription. The prescription based on the psychological evaluation of the patient will help
the patient in following ways.
1)To find out the correct constitutional remedy.
2) The remedy selected on the basis of psychological evaluation helps to prevent the reccrence of the physical
ailments.
3) The physical ailment is completely cured if we base our prescription on mental generals.

To understand how a psychological evaluation of a person can help in treating physical ailments of a person we
first need to understand how the psyche plays a role in the causation and progress of a disease.
According to my understanding any sudden impact on our psyche does not allow the normal fight and flight
response of the body to operate. In that case the imprint of that impact is lodged in our psyche. The organs in
our brain that play a key role during and just after the impact are our five senses and the thalamus , amygdala
and hippocampus. The impact is then lodged in different areas of the brain suited to bear the brunt of the
impact. Life has to save itself so the whole brain is not affected. The area of the brain affected by the impact
starts sending neurotransmitters to the corresponding body parts and brings about a change as general
symptoms and later physical symptoms. In response to the above cell injury the cell repair starts and that is
observed as pathophysiology and manifests as disease.
In order to reverse the process of disease homeopathically or by any other modality we need to understand
what actually caused the disease in a particular individual as explained above. Selecting a remedy on
psychological evaluation will help the disease reversal which can be observed by herrings law of cure.

Thanks very much everybody for expressing views on the topic of the debate Can
psychological evaluation of the patient be helpful in treating his physical ailments. Most of the
respondents are of the opinion that yes it is helpful, but a further question which rises in this
perspective is how to evaluate this response scientifically so that how everyone perceives it in
the same manner.
