Second NHS Confederation Expo session of the day, hosted by Microsoft! An AI driven future: enhancing clinical productivity 💻 Great to hear Henry Morriss open the conversation with a recognition that there is a lot of exciting potential to utilise AI in the healthcare setting. However, we need to look at some of those core challenges that still exist - such as the laptop taking 20 minutes to turn on! Ensure that a 'stable environment' exists in the foundations of the technology is imperative. 💙 Jacob Lant's point around personalised care particularly resonated regarding 'removing the screen' during consultations. Through voice recognition tools, we can properly engage during interactions with patients, capturing both the clinical facts but also those wider determinants of health. Overall, providing that more 'personalised care' approach. 📄 Some great example from Anna Dijkstra on how this AI can be applied across a variety of different use cases and setting, including the use of AI to scan hundreds of policy documents across a Trust's HR department to answer specific questions for staff. 🤝 Addressing digital and social deprivation - as called out by Jacob, with c.8.5 million citizens without the skills to engage with digital, and c.2 million without broadband due to affordability, we must ensure that as the technology continues to progress that we are mindful of exclusion. Well, yesterday’s Actus Consulting event in partnership with Technology Holdings went so much better than we could have hoped for. We welcomed over 30 UK independent agency owners and founders to discuss strategies to balance growth, purpose and exit value over breakfast in the charming setting of The Union Club. Purpose was the word of the day (no surprises, AI got mentioned too). Our panel of expert speakers offered invaluable insights that gave everyone much to take back with them and think about. Some of the conversations included: Stephen Woodford, Chief Executive of the Advertising Association and a founder of Ad Net Zero, talking about how critical it is, as an over stretched agency leader, to share the purpose task and remember your agency team are part of the gang. So, get them involved in the journey too. Fleur Hicks FRSA, Former CEO of onefourzero, who successfully sold her consultancy to Next 15, reminded the room that when thinking about your purpose, what are you there for? Why are you doing what you are doing? This then needs to be the golden thread that runs through everything, from your values to hiring. Don’t forget the 80/10/10 rule! Bruce Robert Green, Director at Technology Holdings, reflected on the fact that sustainable growth will drive options - purposeful growth is increasingly attractive to potential acquirers; and that it is ok to work with a growth partner to get you to that next stage. Ben Rudman, Executive Director at MSQ emphasised the importance of what you want to get out of your business in the next 5 years, whether this is a financial exit or other. And don’t forget, the biggest growth problem is scalability. Implementing effective systems and processes is crucial for scalable growth. And I chatted about the importance of rethinking the relationship between business and society; consider all stakeholders and communities, not just the shareholders. Balancing profit with purpose can significantly increase your agency’s value. See Coffee & TV as a great case study. In summary? Make sure you weave together purpose, commerciality and operations to ensure you are in a position of sustainable growth. This purpose alignment is now actively sought out from those who want to invest. Becoming a B Corp not only provides the framework for a purpose-driven business, it also demonstrates that you’re a rigorous, well run business too. Purpose can’t be for the sake of purpose. So, know what your end goal is – at Actus Consulting, we call it your dream with a plan. The panel were also all united in saying that it doesn't matter where you start; there is no beginning or end. Just get stuck in, making one difference at a time. The last words go to Stephen: “Be more peacock!” 🦚- if you were there, you know! EP18 – Metabolic Wellbeing without the BS   Title: Mindset, I do not want to be walking into type 2 Diabetes, Alzheimer’s, CVD, or cancer.   Featuring: Sharon Keaney Sharon Keaney is the Chief Operating Officer at Willbe; a Biohacking business based in the UK who are redefining the solutions - not just conversation - around perimenopause and menopause. Like many in the health space Sharon’s path to health and where she is right now is far from a straight one. It began in 2012 following a transformative health journey, during which she lost over 12 stone (76 kilos, 167 pounds) in just 7 months. But the story extends far beyond this. In our conversation we cover everything from life before keto, work-life balance during her city years (or not!), challenges with weight, back injuries, pain and mental health, relationships, and of course the importance of a self-commitment to health - regardless of your starting point - as well as her recent career change. Sharon's notable career trajectory spans her early years on the trading floors of several large investment banks in London and scaling a private investment firm to over $10 billion in trading revenue annually before working with therapy and personal development leaders such as Marisa Peer, and training with luminaries like Tony Robbins and Richard Bandler. Prior to the pandemic, Sharon also established her own health consulting business and in 2018, she launched the UK's first hospital radio show dedicated to mental health in collaboration with Radio Brockley, The Disability Foundation Charity, and The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in NW London. More recently Sharon is a founding member of Willbe; the biohacking business who see Perimenopause as a woman's biggest health opportunity in 2024. I am confident that this discussion will resonate with many. I miss consulting. This testimonial is from the wonderful Peter Lancos in 2019. As part of a startup partner programme offering, I helped Peter and the equally wonderful Sonal Rattan with their messaging and sales strategy.
