Second NHS Confederation Expo session of the day, hosted by Microsoft! An AI driven future: enhancing clinical productivity 💻 Great to hear Henry Morriss open the conversation with a recognition that there is a lot of exciting potential to utilise AI in the healthcare setting. However, we need to look at some of those core challenges that still exist - such as the laptop taking 20 minutes to turn on! Ensure that a 'stable environment' exists in the foundations of the technology is imperative. 💙 Jacob Lant's point around personalised care particularly resonated regarding 'removing the screen' during consultations. Through voice recognition tools, we can properly engage during interactions with patients, capturing both the clinical facts but also those wider determinants of health. Overall, providing that more 'personalised care' approach. 📄 Some great example from Anna Dijkstra on how this AI can be applied across a variety of different use cases and setting, including the use of AI to scan hundreds of policy documents across a Trust's HR department to answer specific questions for staff. 🤝 Addressing digital and social deprivation - as called out by Jacob, with c.8.5 million citizens without the skills to engage with digital, and c.2 million without broadband due to affordability, we must ensure that as the technology continues to progress that we are mindful of exclusion. Thanks Umang Patel for chairing a great panel discussion! As an aside... a very cool promo video on Microsoft Copilot - we are already starting to use this in Channel 3 Consulting. Where applied in the right way, there's huge potential for this in the NHS! #AIHealthTech

97% of hospital data goes unused because of a lack of structure. How many different healthcare establishments have you visited where you had to fill out the same information repeatedly? This phenomenon is not unique. Organizations need to support collaboration share information and work towards the federation of data within the health system. If we were to do so, it would confer benefits for businesses and patients alike. Businesses would improve their data utilization and have less data redundancy, while patients would be able to be connected with relevant clinical trials. The ability to conduct large-scale clinical research studies without sacrificing patient information privacy can’t be understated either. #Healthcare #HealthTech #CX #Data

Imagine a healthcare system where doctors spend nearly 28 hours a week on paperwork instead of patient care. The new Measuring the Administrative Burden report, from Google Cloud and The Harris Poll , reveals just how overwhelming the administrative load is on U.S. healthcare professionals. With healthcare workers buried in paperwork and this burden directly affects patient care. But there’s hope: 9 in 10 providers are ready to embrace generative AI to reduce this load. AI can automate tasks like documentation and claims processing, freeing up time for what matters most: patient care. Key data points: • 8 in 10 clinicians say administrative work reduces patient time. • 96% of healthcare executives agree reducing paperwork will improve care. • 85% of patients want their providers focusing on them, not paperwork. This report shows that AI can be a game-changer, reducing burnout and improving care quality. It’s time to unlock the future of healthcare with technology that works for people, not against them. #AIinHealthcare #GenerativeAI #HealthcareTransformation

“The HHS will issue a plan to regulate AI in healthcare by the end of the year. Does Microsoft think more federal action is needed? When I mentioned that no one company or organization can tackle the responsibilities by themselves, that includes the federal government. The things that we know need to be done to apply responsible AI involve testing the algorithms on very large, diverse datasets. That’s going to be very challenging if you have an organization that doesn’t have that data. So what would likely happen is that they would pass it back to the developers to do that. And developers don’t have access to that either. So it’s important that we build these public-private partnership models to enable us to be able to achieve some of the goals.” Public-Private partnership? Federal regulations governing distribution? Large and diverse data sets? Did somebody say #QHINs? It takes time for the Responsible AI to train and test the model and clinically verify physician burn out reduction and, most importantly, data quality. Health Gorilla is the QHIN that is doing a lot of innovative work in that direction, minus the hype.
