📊 #Awareness: The First Step in Developing a Transition Plan We recently collaborated with African Rainbow Minerals Limited on their #decarbonisation strategy. The first crucial step? A detailed environmental #ImpactAssessment to understand their current #emissions and energy use. This phase is all about awareness. By gathering data on direct #emissions and broader #value chain impacts, we were able to establish a baseline and identify key areas for decarbonisation. If you’re embarking on your own transition strategy, check out the carousel below for some essential steps to get started. Remember, starting with awareness is the foundation of meaningful change. Every company’s journey is unique, but these steps will help create a strong base for a sustainable future. 🌍 If you're exploring #decarbonisation, these steps are a great place to begin!

❓ So, what exactly is a just transition? 🔎 We have learned through our work these past years there is no one-size-fits-all definition. In fact, it is simply not possible to identify a single solution or intervention. ⚖️ What we do know is the transition is underway and it is imperative to include of a wide range of voices and perspectives to ensure it is conducted in a fair and equitable manner. 🎙️ Join our CEO Leslie Johnston, M.Sc. this Thursday, alongside Giulia Corinaldi, Lauren Hermanus, Anthony Dane and Bella Landymore, to catch top findings from the Just Transition Mapping Tool, developed by Climate Horizons and co-funded by Wallace Global Fund, Ford Foundation and ourselves. I’m on my way to Impact Europe’s #ImpactWeek 2024. And I do so with both anticipation and sadness. 🌟 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 of the rich discussions and content we will explore with changemakers from all corners: investors, donors, corporates, social entrepreneurs. The themes are many, and I’m particularly excited to lead a discussion with ClientEarth's Adam Weiss on #climate justice (and the power of the #law) and share the stage with Giulia Corinaldi on the investment opportunities around #justtransitions, based on a mapping Laudes Foundation commissioned with Climate Horizons, along with Wallace Global Fund and Ford Foundation. On Friday, I'll explore, with Peter Cafferkey, the impact potential of foundation #endowments. 🌟𝐒𝐚𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 because this will be my last Impact Week as Chair of this incredible organisation, who, under Roberta Bosurgi’s leadership, has continued to go from strength to strength. I’m proud of how we, with the board and the team, have been able to build on #EVPA's 20-year legacy (thanks, Douglas Miller) and expand what I think is a unique and compelling platform enabling #investment for #impact across the continuum of capital. If you will also be in Bilbao, let me know. Let's grab a coffee and make some good trouble together... 🌍 #COP29 has concluded with an agreement that left a bittersweet taste – it's clear that the concept of a #Just #Transition means different things for developing vs. developed countries. This is why it’s crucial to keep the conversation going and stay committed to delivering on Just Transition goals while exploring feasible solutions. 🔄 This week, alongside Laudes Foundation, we’ll be at Impact Week, organised by Impact Europe, diving deep into these discussions. When talking about Just Transition, two key dynamics emerge: ⚖️ Power Dynamic: there’s a significant imbalance of power and resources between the #GlobalNorth and #GlobalSouth. The Global South often faces the greatest climate impacts but has limited agency in shaping global policies that affect them. 🌿 Transitioning In & Out: transitioning in refers to scaling up #green economic activities, while transitioning out focuses on winding down #carbonintensive sectors. This dual approach is key to addressing the complexities of transitions, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, and ensuring a comprehensive and equitable transition for all. Do you think other globally relevant dynamics should be considered in Just Transition processes? Are there any projects or initiatives you’d recommend as #bestpractices to tackle these challenges? To explore these dynamics further, check out our "Mapping and Trends Analysis on Just Transition Initiatives" report (https://lnkd.in/gr9d7ryw) and the summary (https://lnkd.in/gYB7hjfH)

🌿 As #COP29 wraps up tomorrow in Azerbaijan, the urgency of addressing #climatechange and #sustainability is more apparent than ever. A key focus is the concept of a Just Transition, which aims to make the shift to a greener, sustainable world fair and inclusive for all. Different panels highlighted the need for increased ambition and action to combat the climate crisis, with a #justtransition being vital for building a resilient low-carbon economy, creating good jobs, and ensuring that no one is left behind. ❓ But how do we define just transition? Its meaning depends on who you ask. The stakeholder engagement we conducted for our "Mapping and Trend Analysis on Just Transition Initiatives" showed that the just transition is becoming more #inclusive and that #regional understandings are changing. 🔍 This focus is now moving beyond #workersrights to also be about fairness overall and including the most vulnerable in the transition. Stakeholders in all regions highlighted the importance of #workers and other #communities in a just transition. Many argued that #climate #adaptation is an essential part of a just transition, linking #socialjustice with #climateaction, which are typically addressed through different streams of policies and funding. 🗨️ Just transition is understood differently by different actors. Some interpret this broadly, and some narrowly (as you can see in the figure below), and then bring this framing into the way they implement their strategies. What are the key issues for just transition in your sector and in the geographical areas where you work? Let us know in the comments! For a deeper dive into this complex issue, we recommend reading the full report (https://lnkd.in/gr9d7ryw) and the executive summary of our mapping (https://lnkd.in/gYB7hjfH) Laudes Foundation Wallace Global Fund Ford Foundation

💼 Both the ILO and World Health Organization (WHO) recognize that work-related stress and burnout are #collectivechallenges we all face today. 🧠 Safe and healthy #workingenvironments are not only a fundamental right but are also key to reducing tension and conflicts at work, and improving staff retention, work performance, and productivity. At Climate Horizons, we’ve been reflecting on the best way to approach #mentalhealth and #stressmanagement. We’ve found that creating an environment where these topics can be discussed openly—without fear of judgment—makes a real difference, even though we know it doesn’t solve everything. Wondering what we could do to prevent burnout and promote mental health in the workplace, here's what we’ve tried: 🧘 Encourage the team to slow down when needed and ensure that absolutely no one is contacted while on leave. #Disconnecting fully is crucial. 📚 Invest in training to help everyone better understand where #stress comes from, how to recognize personal triggers, and how to manage them in a healthy way. 🔄 Reframe stress as something to use constructively—and help the team recognize when it’s time to take a break rather than simply "getting used to it." 💡 We’re still learning, but by incorporating practices that focus on #wellbeing, we’ve seen positive changes in #creativity and #productivity. We’re curious—what do you do in your workplace to manage stress and support mental health? How do you encourage your team to take time off and disconnect? Any successful tip to share?
Is Your Job Supporting Your Well-being? Do you feel valued, supported in your mental health and growth, and fairly rewarded? If your answer is YES, you’re one of the fortunate few. According to the 2024 "People at Work" survey by ADP, only 21% of employees feel they receive adequate emotional support from their employers. This lack of support impacts motivation, turnover, and overall performance. But there's good news: companies can foster a more inclusive and positive culture by introducing flexibility, psychological support, and stress-management practices like team building. These steps can lead to a motivated, healthier, and happier workforce. I was recently chosen by Climate Horizons, a forward-thinking startup committed to reshaping the future, to lead a stress-management team-building session in London, incorporating a somatic approach. Together, we explored: - Where our stress responses originate - Understanding your unique stress triggers and how to use them constructively - Why "getting used to" stress is counterproductive - How somatic practices can enhance well-being, creativity, and productivity After an interactive hour of theory, each team member experienced a 30-minute Access Bars session—a light-touch technique on the head, similar to meditation, offering deep relaxation. This practice supports peak performance and helps prevent burnout. Here’s what one participant had to say: "The session was clear and insightful. It helped me focus on the physical effects of stress and incorporate short, restorative practices into my daily routine." Are you looking to support your team’s well-being and resilience? Let’s connect and make it happen.
