This past week, I had the privilege of attending African Rainbow Minerals Limited Bursar Week—a truly transformative experience that provided not only professional insights but also invaluable lessons for personal growth. Here are some key takeaways that left a lasting impact on me: 1️⃣ Hard work beats talent, always – shared by Dr. Busisiwe Tshabalala reminding us that effort and dedication are irreplaceable. To also remain humble as it is a vital trait for long term success. 2️⃣ Mr Prayer Rikhotso highlighted the importance of learning from others through coaching and mentorship. To be a brand that is consistent and authentic. 3️⃣ Choices matter – a profound takeaway from Mr Ayanda Moses Mbatha and Dr Frank Magwegwe, Ph.D., CAIA®, FRM®, CFP®, AMP(Harvard) about decision-making, understanding that careers are a jungle gym. To also understand your money personality, to be resilient. 4️⃣Mental health matters – LYRA Wellness Consultants spoke about the importance of resetting and coping mechanisms. To have difficult conversations and to understand that growth comes from discomfort. This experience reminded me that success is not just about skills but also about mindset, resilience, and self-awareness. A heartfelt thank you to all the speakers and organizers who made this week so impactful—it’s truly an experience I will carry forward. #BursarWeek #PersonalGrowth #Leadership #Resilience #Gratitude

Third-Year Chemical Engineering Student | Dean’s Merit List Awardee | Mentor and Environmental Advocate | Passionate About Innovation and Teamwork
From December 1st to 7th, I had the privilege of attending the ARM Bursar Ambassador Programme—a truly transformative experience hosted by African Rainbow Minerals (ARM), the company funding my undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cape Town. The programme was filled with impactful lessons and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Here are the three most meaningful takeaways from the week: 1️⃣ The Importance of Attitude and Professionalism Dr. Busisiwe Tshabalala emphasized how maintaining a positive attitude and upholding professionalism can shape our success in the workplace. This reminded me that while skills and knowledge are critical, the right mindset and conduct are equally vital in achieving long-term goals. 2️⃣ Financial Literacy and Its Personal Roots Frank Magwegwe, Ph.D., CAIA®, FRM®, CFP®, AMP(Harvard) and Ayanda Moses Mbatha shared powerful insights into financial literacy, showing how our spending habits often stem from childhood experiences and financial traumas. Understanding this connection is essential for making healthier financial decisions and building a stable future. 3️⃣ Mental Health Awareness Lyra Health Wellness Consultants provided invaluable insights into mental health, teaching us the importance of managing our emotions and prioritizing mental well-being. This session reminded me that taking care of our mental health is essential for living a balanced and fulfilling life. The programme also challenged me to think critically and work collaboratively. I was part of a team tasked with tackling the pressing issue of unsafe food products being sold by spaza shops in townships. We developed and presented a solution to a large audience, an experience that strengthened my public speaking skills and reinforced the importance of community-driven problem-solving. A heartfelt thank you to African Rainbow Minerals Limited for organizing this incredible programme and supporting my education. The skills and knowledge I gained will undoubtedly serve me throughout my career and life. #ARM #ChemicalEngineering #ProfessionalDevelopment #FinancialLiteracy #MentalHealth #LeadershipJourney

Some of our postgraduate researchers from Stellenbosch University - Department of Chemical Engineering and the African Rainbow Minerals GeoMetallurgy Research Chair had the incredible opportunity to visit the BRMO Mine (Black Rock Mine Operations). The visit brought to life the practical applications of Geometallurgy, where they saw firsthand how the concepts of process mineralogy, modeling, and machine learning bridge the gap between theory and practice. A huge thank you to the team at BRMO for hosting us and sharing your knowledge and experience! Thanks to Kwena Nong and African Rainbow Minerals Limited for investing in the next generation of Geometallurgists. #geometallurgy, #postgraduate, #stellenboschuniversity, #geology, #metallurgy, #modeling, #processmineralogy, #mining, #postgraduatestudies
