JOB SUMMARY
Assist all members of the pre-operative assessment team
to deliver a high standard of care to patients, working
regularly without direct supervision but with guidance
from a Registered Nurse by preparing patients for
assessment.
To undertake phlebotomy for patients from within the
gynaecology directorate.
Undertake duties to support the efficient organisation of
the Department.

Clinical Responsibilities
Following training and demonstration of competency, assist in the assessment
process of patients pre-operatively by undertaking the following
Record and evaluate an ECG at rest within the department and also within
the gynaecology directorate where necessary.
Undertake and record weight, height, vital signs including blood pressure.
Undertake urinalysis including pregnancy testing.
Undertake phlebotomy within the department and also within the
gynaecology directorate where necessary.
Assist with the care of patients within the department.
Participate in the reception, care, transfer and discharge of patients from the
department.
Support Nursing staff by preparing notes for clinic.
Sort through all results received in the department and ensure they are dealt with
appropriately.
Undertake receptionist duties in the absence of the receptionist.
Use computerised systems after receiving appropriate supervised training
Communicate courteously with patients, relatives and visitors
Assist in the development and maintenance of a congenial environment on the
department so as to create an atmosphere to minimise patients anxieties
Ensure all personal practice is carried out in line with infection control policies.
Will work closely with the staff in the department, Gynaecology Matrons, Head of
Nursing and clinicians in embedding the principles of Clinical Governance and
standards for better health in order to maintain/improve and develop high
standards of patient care, and thereby ensure that patients are treated with
privacy, dignity and respect.
Place patient experience at the core of service delivery through implementation
and continued monitoring of essence of care standards, Patient involvement &
experience strategy and patient satisfaction surveys.
Actively promote diversity and equality. Generate and sustain relationships
Keep accurate, adequate and up to date records in accordance with the Trust
policies.
