The diverse ethnic heritage of the Lone Star State has brought to music an array of rhythms, instruments and musical styles that have helped shape the music industry and the world in which it thrives. Legends with Texas roots like George Strait, Willie Nelson, Patty Griffin, and the Dixie Chicks have contributed their unique styles to the Country music scene, influencing generations of country artists to come. Texas even has its own Country genre tokened as Red Dirt that proves an illustrious reputation and a die-hard fan base with artists like Randy Rogers Band, Cody Johnson, Aaron Watson, and more.
From longtime favorites like Lucinda Williams and Bonnie Bishop to Penny & Sparrow and Leon Bridges, Texas is a leading region for American Roots music. Artists like Beyoncé, Slim Thug, and Bun B, who call Houston home, have given rise to their own style of Rap and R&B as new artists from the H-Town scene continue to make national waves. Innovators from South Texas like Selena, Freddy Fender, and Little Joe Hernandez popularized Tejano music as the genre it is today and Texas artists like Intocable and La Energia Nortena continue to influence the Norteno music trends. Texas Blues masters Stevie Ray & Jimmie Vaughn helped Austin-grown Gary Clark Jr. imagine and define his sound.
The sounds hailing from Texas are as vast as the state itself—from Amarillo down to McAllen, a unique sound of music from Gospel to Banda is the backdrop to the experience. Austin is where it all comes together. With its rich history in live music, from the days of the Armadillo World Headquarters to the current phenomena of Austin City Limits and SXSW, it's no wonder Austin is the home of this dynamic Chapter.
The Texas Chapter delivers unique programming and opportunities to industry professionals of all trades and the next generation throughout the state. Additionally, this Chapter is dedicated to enriching the music community through outreach and advocacy. Needless to say, Texas is a big Chapter doing big things.
Please take a few minutes and explore not only what the Texas Chapter is doing, but what all the Chapters have to offer in the way of professional development and opportunities for our members.
