Recording Academy Los Angeles Chapter holds the distinction of being the organization's oldest and largest Chapter. The L.A. Chapter and the Academy can trace their roots back to visionaries like Nat "King" Cole, Sammy Cahn, and Sonny Burke who laid the foundation for the Recording Academy and what is now the GRAMMY Awards.
Looking at a map of L.A. and the area the Chapter covers is to see a music landscape that represents the same diversity found in the Chapter's membership. One trip up PCH reflects the beach sound started in the '60s with Jan And Dean, the Beach Boys, and "Surf Sound" pioneer Dick Dale. Head south to find the home of West Coast rappers such as Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and Kendrick Lamar or go downtown to hear the melodious sounds of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Take Interstate 5 South to Orange County and find the home of 311, Agent Orange, Social Distortion and No Doubt. Back up to the Sunset Strip, one of Los Angeles' musical epicenters, which has played host to L.A.-based bands ranging from the Doors and the Bangles to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Mötley Crüe.
L.A. is a musical and creative destination. Homegrown bands, as well as imports from around the country, join forces to create not one signature sound, but many. The L.A. Chapter and its members are in the center of it all. The Chapter produces a wide range of events to engage everyone in the music community. From intensive creative workshops with artists, producers and songwriters to in-depth panels with some of the industry’s brightest minds, members can choose from a variety of events that are sure to inform and entertain.
Please take a few minutes and explore not only what the Los Angeles Chapter is doing, but what all the Chapters have to offer in the way of professional development and opportunities for our members.
