The Philly sound started from humble beginnings, but has become the foundation for many of today’s largest artists. This foundation, created by legends like Gamble and Huff and Patti LaBelle, continues to invigorate generations. From the Roots to Jill Scott(opens in a new tab), the "Sound of Philadelphia" lives on.
As a migratory destination for music makers both within and outside the U.S., Philadelphia is home to an array of genres and styles. This diversity of influences has combined to produce bands and songs that helped define the American musical landscape. From jazz, classical, pop, R&B, and soul, to traditional ethnic songs (which migrated into the city with immigrants from Europe and the Caribbean), the Philadelphia music community continues to forge ahead to break new ground and create new sounds.
The Philadelphia Chapter is home to artists and music creators from throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware and South New Jersey. Their recent slate of events not only cover the creative aspect of music making but take the lead on informing artists about the business side of the industry.
Please take a few minutes to explore not only what the Philadelphia Chapter is doing, but what all the Chapters have to offer in the way of professional development and opportunities for our members.
