4 years ago, I took a chance. Hired a fresh college grad with ZERO experience. At 22, he started as a Customer Success Manager. No fancy resume. No years of experience. Just raw potential. We skipped the "traditional" route.  Didn't headhunt an industry veteran.  Didn't poach from competitors. Instead, we bet on hunger.  On the drive to learn.  On the willingness to grow. 4 years later? He's leading a team successfully. Innovating.  Constantly pushing his comfort zone. Our company is thriving because of his efforts. Here's what I've learned: 1. Paper qualifications are overrated. 2. Potential beats experience. 3. Internal growth creates loyalty. The best hires often come from unexpected places. They're the ones who see obstacles as opportunities.  Who turn inexperience into innovation. So next time you're hiring? Look beyond the resume. Hiring for your team requires you to know the following: 1. What are the qualities you appreciate of the new joinee? 2. What are the qualities that you exhibit? 3. What do you value as attributes and attitude in the team? 4. Do you want someone who is smart and expert in her/his game? 5. Do you want someone who is good at taking instructions and following through? Answering these questions before you sit to evaluate anyone for your team is imperative. This is also a definition about you. The things that you value, are consistent about doing and believing in. Hiring is an art. That's a wrap on our first full-stack internship program in Wroclaw! Vitali Svishchev, our Group Manager, welcomed three talented young individuals to join us, with two accepting permanent positions on the team! "The program spanned three months, involving 12 lecturers and mentors who aimed to impart practical knowledge to our young colleagues," recalls Vitali. "The focus was on immersing them in a nearly authentic project environment. All project processes mirrored our daily routine; they followed the Scrum framework, including planning, daily meetings, demos, and retrospectives. Interns gained experience with modern tools and technologies like issue trackers, version control systems, cloud technologies, and CI/CD processes. They learned task estimation, delivery, deployment, and testing—the entire path from initial investigation to production delivery." Jumping for joy today and celebrating the best news of 2024 with this "getting the band back together dream team" of Bridget Thoreson & Jennifer Brandel at Hearken, Inc. YES! I have been astonished by what I can only describe as "alliances and ruptures" over the past few months in the organizations I care about, co-founded and The Movement more broadly. The comings and goings tell a profound, nuanced story of, "How do we get along during times of crisis?" And especially in spaces that have cooperation and listening front and center values to their mission. I hold endless fascination in the organizational psychology of what allows for composting, combining, separating and boundaries. All processes are necessary. How they unfold is like watching the flowers turn into tomatoes before my eyes each day in my garden, nourished by the tomatoes from this fall's compost. A miracle, truly. A rupture is: a group of well meaning people who could once cooperate no longer can and have lost trust an alignment. I have come to see this as, above all else, a failure of communication and an absence of containers. An alliance is: a group of people who, in the words of my mother, "Agrees to agree." Despite the differences, past conflicts, Big Feelings, there is something, some river of communication and shared understanding, that allows them to commit. In the words of Arizmendi “Today revolution is called participation.” Here's to following and flowing in these rivers of relationships together. Huge kudos to Hearken for, as ever, leading the way with such clarity of heart and vision and growth every step of the way.
