#SaaSeries2: Freshworks Q2 FY24 Results. Here are the key highlights: - Total customers in Q2 FY24 grew by 4% to 68.8K YOY. - Customers with ARR >USD 5K grew by 14% YOY, accounting for 90% of the ARR. - Customers with ARR > USD 50K grew by 30% YOY, making up 50% of the ARR. In terms of key metrics: - Revenue saw a 20% growth to 174 Mn in Q2 FY24, with the US market contributing 45%. #FedEx courier scam In the last 15 days, I received more than 5 calls pretending to be a call from FedEx. All through Automated IVR and mentioning that your parcel is blocked, or your parcel couldn’t be delivered.   Recently, a Bengaluru journalist lost Rs 1.20 crore to a similar FedEx courier scam. Fraudsters impersonated FedEx and Narcotics Control Bureau officials, claiming her package contained illegal items, created an artificial urgency, and siphoned money off her accounts.   In case you get similar calls, follow the following steps:   ✅ If you haven’t shipped any parcel through FedEx, Disconnect the call and report the number to the Chakshu Portal. ✅ If you had an ongoing parcel with FedEx – • Ensure the authenticity of the call by asking Parcel Number and matching it with your courier slip • Do not share any information over the call. • Contact Local Police or Cyber Expert in your area. • Never transfer any funds online based on calls.   Stay alert, stay safe! Interesting read on Kirana vs Qcommerce. Key summary points: 1. Short orders/smaller SKUs/loose items/local brands drive lot of grocery orders where Qcommerce is not effective 2. Qcommerce is eating more market share of super markets than Kiranas. So it is more a threat to Dmart than Kiranans 3. Qcommerce is costly and appeals to a certain (middle class+) persona of customer 4. Thoughts on Zomato's recent acquisition of Paytm's Movie and Event Biz. 1. Right now Zomato is getting multiple of ~200 on it's EBIDTA, they paid multiple of ~80 (profit of 27 crore). For next couple of years they may continue to trade at ~100 multiple so from that POV it should boost their M cap or help maintain very stretched valuations if not boost them further. 2. It's already a ~9% EBDITA margin business for Paytm (300 cr revenue). Book my show made a PAT of ~85 crore on revenue of ~1000 crore last year (~8.5% PAT). This margin is better than grocery ever will be so margin accretive. 3. Zomato also wants going out biz to be worth 10,000 crore turnover (this is already at ~3500 crore GOV business, yet to make profit in zomato's case). This acquisition is good addition to this biz and fits in well with their ambition of making this the 3rd large business from house of Zomato. 4. Going out / Movie Ticketing is a duopoly market with Bookymyshow as only other large player. Zomato with it's execution rigour may be gunning for No.1 spot. If they make it happen, they will be No.1 player in 3 business. A very difficult feat. Paytm has 30-40% market share in ticketing and movie space. 5. Zomato also sitting on 12000 crores of cash. This is not generating more than FD returns I presume. So this is a good avenue for cash deployment as such opportunities are hard to come by. 6. They may look at entering food biz for movies. This is Large and immensely profitable segment. PVR made 2000 crore of revenue from selling F&B. Although I doubt PVR will be okay with that given 30-40% of their revenue and likely a higher share of profit comes from food. But I feel that some sort of integration is likely on cards. Meituan Sells Over $200M Stake in Swiggy Ahead of IPO Chinese lifestyle e-commerce giant Meituan has sold over $200 million worth of its stake in Swiggy to a US-based investor through a secondary deal, according to sources. Meituan first invested in Swiggy in 2018, later increasing its stake in 2020. The recent sale, which occurred last week, valued Swiggy at around $10 billion, though the exact stake sold remains undisclosed. Currently, Meituan holds a 3.88% stake in Swiggy via Inspired Elite Investments, according to TheKredible. Other investors, including Elevation Capital and Norwest, are also offloading shares ahead of Swiggy’s anticipated IPO in the coming weeks. Swiggy plans to raise $450 million through a fresh issue of shares, alongside an undisclosed amount via an offer for sale. Swiggy reported a 36% revenue increase for FY24, reaching Rs 11,247 crore, while reducing net losses by 44% to Rs 2,350 crore. 🚨Swiggy IPO gets oversubscribed led by QIB bids Swiggy’s IPO was oversubscribed 1.07 times by the third day, driven largely by QIBs, who oversubscribed their portion 1.52 times. Retail investors subscribed to 97% of their portion, while Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs) made bids for 22% of their allocation. Swiggy's employee quota also saw strong demand, with a subscription rate of 1.38 times. Can qCommerce Exist Anywhere Else? Indian companies are soaring on ultra-fast delivery. BigBasket, Zepto, Flipkart Minutes, and Swiggy Instamart are aggressively hiring, including poaching talent from competitors as demand for their service explodes. There's an "arms race" to open dark stores (micro-fulfillment warehouses) to facilitate the 15-30 minute delivery promise... especially in urban areas where real estate is expensive and hard to secure. As competition intensifies, platforms are focused on offering faster delivery and denser store networks to retain customers who tend to stick to one or two services unless faced with poor service. The operational complexity, particularly in logistics and inventory management, is a key challenge as quick commerce evolves. It's actually the biggest weakness and (in my opinion), where these models will start to collapse. How do you see this market changing? Can it make a raging come back in other parts of the world where it has started to falter?
